Freaking ridiculous

My sister just proudly posted a photo of her feeding her 6 month old baby a honeybun.  You know, one of those Hostess or Little Debbie, preservative filled pieces of crap?  Yeah.  To a 6 month old baby.  That she smoked with while pregnant, and has had bowel surgery.  I really wish I could take that baby away from her.

  • Oh dear. How does a 6 month old even eat that? My niece is 5 months and I couldn't even imagine her eating anything remotely solid right now...

  • My FMIL kept trying to feed biscuits to my then-eight month old niece.  Every time she tried to do it, one of her children would yell, "Mom!  Don't kill the baby!  She can't eat that and will choke!"

FMIL must have offered a biscuit to the kid eight or nine times.  Bitch.

Snippy, I'm sorry your sister is stupid.
  • Oh my.  Julia's only in the last couple of weeks had a little lick of ice cream and a nibble of cake at her cousin's 1st bday party.  But a honey bun?  No way.

  • Are you freakin' kidding me?? Chiquita isn't too far from there and I can't imagine giving  her anything but maybe rice cereal at the 6 month mark.  She doesn't even have teeth yet!
  • Whoa, Snippy's sister, way to start your child on junk food at an age when she should be eating pureed vegetables.  That's excellent parenting.

Snippy, I know that you and your H don't really want kids, but what about a mercy adoption?
  • Oh my. I am not trying to be mean, but I hope she knows infant CPR.

Does the kid even have any teeth? I didn't even have a tooth until I was 10 1/2 months old.

  • And better yet?  This person responded after I asked why the hell she was giving him one of those things by saying:

"Because I felt like it his parents didn't have a problem with it and if you do....oh well!"

    Whaaaaaat the fuuuuuuuck?!
  • I'd respond back, "Did you think that maybe the baby's BODY has a problem with it?"

Hey, if someone wants to be such a turd on FB, give it back.
  • Snippy I think your sister and my sister must be related somehow.
  • BB got purees at 6 months.  She got teeth right after that.  She's still on some soft/puree (sweet potatoes, avocado) but she gets mac&cheese (homemade), diced fruit, shredded chicken, peas, toast, cheese and the like to finger- feed herself.   She has 6 teeth right now and is doing really well with gumming in the areas she doesn't have teeth.

  • This woman, whom I've never met, is listed as my sister's "sister" on FB.  Apparently, one gets to sister status by supporting horrible decisions made by the other and giving thumbs up to bad parenting.

I swear to god, if I see this going badly, I will fly back, grab the kid and bring him back over here where he can have a healthy life. He's got SO much stacked against him right now.
  • I don't know if there is such thing as artifical honey, but children under 1 are not supposed to be given honey at all.

<div>Ohhhshit. Forget the fact that it's junk food, she's right, honey can be toxic to kids that age.</div>
  • It sucks when you see stuff like that.  A good friend of mine seriously thinks she'll be in the same position with her SIL...who smoked and most likely took drugs throughout her pregnancy.
  • Oh gosh. Snippy, I'm sorry you're dealing with that. That poor kid.
  • Forgot about that!

There's a good chance it isn't 'real' honey but I'd stay the eff away from something that my child can't digest.  Botulism is serious.
  • I'm fairly certain that there's nothing natural in anything Little Debbie makes, so botulinum from honey is a distant concern.

That being said, there are a million things that baby should be eating before anything by Little Debbie should be considered.
  • Poor, poor baby.

It breaks my heart seeing kids not being cared for properly.

  • I googled the ingredients--it does have dried honey. Probably pasteurized, though.
  • ljust looked up the ingredients on the little debbie ones....there is dry honey in them.

  • Aaand another response from this idiot who gave him the honeybun:

"I tried to be nice but, here I go..- am in the medical profession and I happen to hold a degree in mortuary science so, I'm very well versed on the human body. I have raised two children of which one is currently in college pursuing an engi...neering degree! Blood means nothing because where the hell where you whan Cindi gave birth to you ACTUAL nephew? You weren't there! I was so...biology doesn't come into this picture because I've spent more time with them than you have and its obvious you don't know we're with each other now!! Joke on you. Obviously you have nothing else to do but irritate the fuuck out of us. They aren't gonna allow any harm to come to their son so the mere fact that you want to dictate your ORGANIC thinking upon someone else is a true sign that you don't really know the effects of not having meat and raw vegetables in your diet but...to each its own. Find something to do then constantly barrage us..brother/sister with your idiotic tendencies!!! By the way..when are YOU gonna have children??"
  • Dude.  WTF.  Our friends feel bad that they gave some Sprite to their almost 2-year old when he was sick.  A freaking honey bun at 6 months???  Someone should pop her right in her ovaries for the good of mankind.
