The Day of... Where are you getting dressed?

Okay girls: on The Big Day where are you putting on your dress?

All of the girls are getting their hair done at my moms house (my lovely stylist and a friend are nice enough to do house calls), and I had assumed that's where I would get dressed. This morning I've started to question my decision. Would it be easier to get dressed at the church?
Getting dressed at the house would be more relaxed, but then I would have to cram myself and my train into a car. Getting dressed at the church would mean hauling my dress there, and trying not to forget anything.

Opinions please :)

  • I chose "at your venue" but my venue is my parents house.

  • I have had the same question....
  • I am getting ready at home because we're taking most of our pics beforehand.  I will have final touch-ups (make-up and hair) at the church right before the wedding.

  • I'm getting dressed at my parents' house the day of the wedding. It is bigger and has a great master bathroom. My sister and I are spending the night there Friday night along with my aunt. When we wake up I'm sure we will do a Starbucks run. My hairdresser and make up artist is coming to the house about 10:45am.

  • None of the above.. we rented a condo that is about 3 miles from the Venue to get ready in.

  • I'm going to be at the church starting at 9am (our ceremony isn't until 6:30pm) so I will be getting ready at the church.

My parents house- not only does the church not really have any great places (we'd have to get ready in the nursery), but there are a few great photo ops at my parent's house.

  • I am getting ready at FH parents house, since that is where we will be having the ceremony and reception. My hair is being done at my hairdressers; which is 5 mins from FH parents house.
  • Venue! A beautiful room with great lighting for photos.

I'm getting dressed at the hotel, then taking a limo for the 5 minute ride to our venue.

  • We're getting our hair done at the salon but we're getting ready/dressed at my house. My FI and I purchased our house and renovated it recently and it's a long-term house. I like the idea of having kids looking at pictures at "Mom" when she was younger on her wedding day, in the same house.

    Is that weird??

  • I didn't vote because none of those options fit me.

We'll be getting ready at the hotel we'll stay at the night before and on our wedding night. It's very convenient to the church and reception venues and it'll be nice that FI and I can be in the same place.

  • I'm getting ready in the hotel as well, then going out to do first look pictures.
  • Venue. We are doing "getting ready" pics and pics of the dresses on the hangers I made for the girls, so we'll get ready there in the room they have for us to use.

  • Hair and makeup at the stylist then dressing with my mom at the venue; I love their set up in there so it made sense.

  • I voted "the venue" but its the reception venue, not the wedding venue. It is a very short walk to the church and I think we will get some cute pictures of me with my dad and my girls and I walking to the church.

I chose "home" because I'm getting dressed at my momma's house, which is technically not my current home, but it used to be!

I guess maybe it's a regional thing, but the thought of getting dressed at the venue never even crossed my mind. I'd actually never heard of anyone doing that until I watched an episode of My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding where she did it out of sheer need because she couldn't fit out the door of her house.

ETA: Also, there's no where that is discreet where I could get dressed at the venue. There's a little room off to the side of the ceremony building entrance, but it's just big enough for me, my mom, and my 2 bridesmaids. And there's no mirrors. And there's a window without a blind. So no, that wouldn't work for me as an option.

  • Reception and ceremony are at the same spot & they have a special dressing room where we'll all be putting our dresses on.

  • We're doing some moving around the day of - everyone is getting hair and makeup at the salon then we're all getting ready at my parent's house. Then we're going to the church. The room at the church isn't big enough for me and my 8 bridesmaids plus it's not air conditioned...which would not be good!

I wish we could stay in one place for everything but I'm thankful for vans haha

  • I voted undecided lol
Although it might very likely be at the venue because we will be there setting up the decorations. Then the photographer is meeting us there for our first look photos.
We live close to an hour from our venue but my FILs live about 10 minutes from the venue so maybe I'll get dressed there.
And then there is always the option of getting a hotel room and getting dressed there.

So as you can see I'm still undeciding and it stresses me out lol

  • I really didn't want to deal with cramming into a car with my dress. We're not renting a limo, so it would just be a mid-sized car, nothing big and fancy. So we're getting our hair done at the salon, then driving to the church. I'll get dressed at the church (they have a "bridal suite") and the reception is also at the church, so no car is needed. Before we leave, H and I will change at the church and a friend will take my dress home for me.
  • I am getting ready at my house, stylist / MUA are coming there. There are 6 BM, my mom and grandmother all getting ready there... but Fi and I have the largest house and all my BM wanted to be with me, so they are all spending Friday night, we need to be in the Limo for the 45min drive to the church by 10:30ish! Fi is staying with his OOT GM at his parents house, which is 5 minutes from the church on the Friday night..

    Same here!
  • I'm getting ready at home! We're doing our first look at a park near by and my neighborhood is super gorgeous so it just works.

  • Most of our vineyards have lofts/apartments just for brides to use for hair/makeup and dressing.

I'm getting ready in the bridal loft at my venue. :)
  • We are getting ready at my parent's house, but actually putting on the dress at the venue. I don't want to ride in the limo with it on... too big. Plus the venue has a full bridal suite we can take advantage of.

  • Our venue has a separate suite for the bride and groom. We're both getting ready there.  I'm a little stressed that there won't be enough time to get ready though. We can't get into the venue until 11 and the ceremony is at 2.  The photographer wants to do pictures before as well.  ARRGGHH!!! I didn't think about pictures when I picked times. :(

I chose "home" but I'm getting ready at my dad's house- the hair stylist and MU artist are coming there.  I'll have snacks and champagne for my girls and then we will ride to the venue in my dad's Caddy.  My dress isn't big so it shouldn't be a problem transporting me in it!  Our ceremony venue is outside so there's obviously nowhere there to get ready.
