Stumped on Gifts

So I'm usually really, really good at picking out gifts for people. Not just cheesy things, but stuff people actually like and will use. Now for the wedding? I'M STUMPED!!!

I have no clue what to get our parents. I would like to get both of the mothers handkerchies because I know they'll both cry, I'm not sure about the dads. My dad isn't really a crier. So many people do the photo albums, and I know they'd love them, I just feel like that isn't personal enough.

FI has the GM's taken care of...He got the guys personalized beer mugs and superhero shirts. He's going to get his BM a nice cigar too.

I have necklaces for my girls to wear with their dresses and I know that isn't all you're supposed to do, so I'm desperately trying to think of something else that they will actually use. I've tried to think of something I can get them all the same...different things...my mind is drawing a blank. Help!!!

What are you guys doing for parents and BM's?? Any suggestions are more than welcome!

Re: Stumped on Gifts

  • When my parents got married my Dad had special earrings made for my mom, think long silver tendril. For my mom I bought a similar pair of earrings but with a pearl on the bottom to put my own twist on his design. For my Dad I bought him a tie, like the ones the guys are wearing in another color. I sewed a heart to the back of it using the lace from my wedding dress. We got FI's mom an engraved silver frame with out wedding invitation on the right and an engagement photo on the left.

  • I bought my daughter, my only attendant, her first Coach purse as a gift... at the outlet with a 30% off coupon given how expensive they are. I gave it to her early and she loves it. I thought that would get more use than jewelry. I do have a new strand of saltwater pearls to give her on the actual wedding day though.

Still not sure what FI will get for his BM but we're going to try for something practical but meaningful.

For my son, who is walking down the aisle with me, I am getting him a new longboard. I know, not a traditional gift but something he'll enjoy for a long time and (hopefully) think of me when he uses it.

  • I am getting my parents a gift card to a night out at a nice place to eat and a hotel to stay at for them to relax after the wedding while we are on our honeymoon, for his parents not sure yet but might be the same idea. As for my girls I got them couch wristlets for the day of the wedding but make it speical to you think what would you like for a small thank you gift? I hope that helps
  • I got the moms (my mom, my stepmom and FI's mom) grandmother necklaces with the birthstones of the grandchildren. My MOH is getting a survival kit in a nice tote bag plus earrings. My dad is so hard to buy for. All he ever wants is scratch offs and cigars, so I might just get him that honestly.

  • I'm getting the parents all gift cards. For my girls, I'm getting them two different scented fall shower gels from Philosophy and a gift card to a store I know they'd like. My FI got his guys personalized shirts from their favorite NFL team.

  • For the bridesmaids I got handmade cosmetic bags, completely customized to hopefully match their individual tastes. Inside the bags, I am going to put their jewelry for the wedding. I had necklaces and earrings made for them. I think I might also add a bottle of perfume for my maid of honor. The groomsmen are getting monogramed leather toiletry bags. FI is going to buy a bottle of cologne for his best man as well from his favorite store. We bought my father's dress clothes for the rehearsal dinner and the night before the rehearsal night, when we are going to FI's temple to be given a blessing, No ideas yet for my mother. Maybe a nice piece of jewelry plus an album? And still thinking for FI's parent's. We might send them to an inn we recently stayed at and really enjoyed.
  • I am having trouble coming up with something for the parents too.  Here is what I have for everyone else:

Bridesmaids: Zip up Hoodies with the first letter of their first name embroidered on to the left chest area.  (We can wear these when we go get our hair done.  I got a white one for myself.)  I also got them all Givinchey bracelets that they can wear to the wedding.  I got my MOH a matching pair of earings.  I am also preparing for rain and I have 4 nice umbrellas so I will be giving them to the bridesmaids after, but not wrapped.

Groomsmen:  My FI's groomsmen are very outdoorsey/sporty, so we got them cooler/chairs that they can take with them fishing/nascar/baseball games etc along with a bottle openner.  We also just got them all GUESS watches which will look really nicely with their tuxes, and they will probably wear for nice occasions.  My FI also paid for his BM's tux rental.

Flowergirl:  We bought her dress (only $36 at Macys!) and I found a flowergirl sticker book that will probably keep her busy during the rehearsal dinner, and I just got her a simple bracelet that I would like to have her name engraved in.

FI Parents: NO IDEA!  We will be giving them a photo album with wedding pictures, but we want something to give them to open at the rehearsal dinner too.

My Mom:  Still not sure.  She will also be getting a photo album, but I want her to open something at the rehearsal dinner too.  She has been SOOO helpful it is unbelievable.  I know I'd like to send her away for a long weekend somewhere nice, but I just can't afford that right now.  Especially because by the time the wedding is over it is going to be so close to the holiday season, and I'm not even sure she will want to go away at that point.  So I am thinking about getting her a gift card to a nice restaurant and tickets to go see a broadway play (she lives in CT).
