September 2012 Weddings

Is it odd that I'm not stressed / freaking out?

I see so many posts about how other brides are freaking out about details and worried and stressed, etc. etc etc.

Am I the only one that is NOT stressed or freaking out about my wedding?  I'm doing all the things on TK checklist and am actually ahead of the game.  As far as I'm concerned I have the groom, the officiant, the hall, the DJ, the photographer, the invites (all ready to mail) and the honeymoon is booked and paid for.

Am I missing something?  I am a Project Manager by trade so maybe that accounts for my lack of worrying....  I'm enjoying the planning and really don't have any of the "little stuff" to worry about that I see others mentioning.

Sign me,
Getting married 9/22 and not worried at all.

  • I was fine until we decided to buy a house, sell ours and move before the wedding. It's the combination that is stressing me out, not the wedding itself. And it's mostly because I want to be sure I have time to finish all my DIY/personal touches ;)

I feel your pain! During all the wedding plannig we painted and put the FI's house up for sale, moved him into my house and finally sold his!

  • I can say, I'm not actually freaking out either. But, I am very nervous.  I keep trying to think up other things that will make the day more "perfect", which is totally ridiculous.  I see all kinds of stuff on tie DIY board that people are doing, and I'm like, OH, I should have THAT too.

It doesn't help that there are like 3 weddings that are in the few months before ours or few months after ours.  Originally, I thought that was SUPER fun. We would all share ideas, etc.  Then, someone casually said "oh, we gotta do this or that... cuz you know... we gotta make sure our wedding isn't outdone".

I never even thought of it as a competition until that was said.. now, I'm like, oh shitt.  Is our wedding going to be crappy compared to theirs?   that thought NEVER occurred to me before that moment.
  • I'm not freaking out because I honestly don't have much to do. Like you, I did everythig month by month and I'm basically up to date. All I really have to do is meet with all my vendors when we get closer to the wedding/make my final payments, buy some gifts for the wedding party, and make a seating chart when the RSVPs come in. So, not really stuff I can do right now. (Although I want to start buying my attendant gifts this month/next month).

  • I'm taking on a bunch of DIY so that is accounting for a lot of my stress...
  • Im only freaking out because i work 60 hrs/week and don't have time to do anything. But most of the time I am indifferent.... I've gotten to the point where I do not care a lick about the details. Just as long as stuff is where it needs to be.
  • Have you not seen me responding to those posts something along the lines of "chill out and enjoy the day" =D I think I p.o.'d my coworker today when I said something to the effect that I'm glad I'm not doing all the extras she is -because she is so exhausted and I dont want to be running around like she is this week- and her wedding is this weekend! It's nice that she is doing all these things, but not necessary and definitely not at the cost of all the time and stress!

  • I'm so glad to see this post!  I thought I was the only one not freaking out lol. I've been way ahead of the game the whole time.  I think in part because I've planned lots of huge events for work before so this isn't new and probably not the biggest event I've had to deal with.  I'm also not stressing about all the tiny details...we picked a few that were important for us to have to add our personal touch but we're not going crazy.  All the things I have left are assembling/mailing invites and finishing up buying the last of the WP/parents gifts!  Everything else on my to-do list depends on getting rsvp's back :-)
  • Agreed! Not freaking out but I have had a TON of help from my mother and suprisingly my fiance has REALLY stepped up on a lot of the phone calls/booking things. If we had to have the wedding tomorrow, we could.
Getting as much done in the winter was the plan so we could enjoy the summer and not be cooped up doing wedding projects.
Way to be positive ladies, only a few months to go!!!

  • I think if you have everything done then there is nothing to worry about and you're fine. Me on the other had, I have all these half completed projects. Plus flakey people that keep saying they will help and then they never show up. Then I'm also trying to have a garage sale and pack for a cross country move..and my FI is leaving me for three months and I won't see him until a few days before the wedding. So, I'm a little stressed... Did I mention my monthly vistor is late and I cry all the time? Ha! I'm probably going to lose my mind...
  • I think that is normal.  I think my stress/freak outs come from wanting to add the personal touches/details that aren't necessary but while making me stresed sometime are also the things that are most fun and most valued to me AND from NWR things.  99.9% of my stress is financial.  We signed with all our vendors etc, committed to a guest list, not knowing FI would be without a paycheck for 3 months (and couting now) with so little time before the wedding.  Getting the standard vendors I thought was easy!  Most of my wedding related stress is self-created and/or monetary.  If those are worries for you, I think you're fine!

I'm not freaking out at all. I am also getting married Sep 22nd and have been planning since Nov 2010, so maybe thats why. I got all the big stuff out of the way like a year ago, and my invites are in the mail. I do have to say i'm starting to get a little excited now!
  • Glad to hear that I'm not the only calm bride around here!  Laughing

I have a few moments where I think about the things I still have to do like seating charts and deciding music for the ceremony but I know I've got time.

The most important thing for me is my FI and getting married so that we can continue our life together.  All the rest is a big party to celebrate!

This for the most part.  I'm not freaking out about things or vendors - those are all done.  I think the 3 month mark made me freak out more in the, "Oh shlt, this is getting real now."  I'm not nervous about the actual wedding, but more the momentousness of the occasion.  And also the fact that I feel really out of shape and overweight, so I feel the time crunch now to rectify that so I don't hate my wedding pictures forever.

hey me too!, 9/22/12!!  I am not too stressed, I have alot done already, and am just waiting for the date to get closer when I will have to tackle more detailed stuff.

We've been dating for 3.5yrs now and been engaged for 2.5, so maybe that's why I'm less stressed, long engagement :)
