October 2012 Weddings

Contact? or Not?

So after my last bust on finding a Photograher (she's applying to med school and doesn't know if she'll be in the area in Oct) I remembered a girl who had FB messaged me back in January.  She and I have a mutal friend.  At the time I told her I would keep her in mind when I got to that part of planning.  So I messaged her back.  She's already booked.  She did give me names of three other girls whom she highly recommended.  Of the three, the one I like the photos I've seen the most, recently moved to Oregon.  She still has family in the Dayton, OH area so she still books events here.  I wouldn't be able to actually meet her face to face until probably the wedding.  I'm so undecided if I should even contact her and ask her for prices and availability. What do you girls think?

Re: Contact? or Not?

  • I would contact her, it doesn't hurt to try to at least talk to her.  Also, for all you know she could be great and really good at keeping in contact with you, hopefully easing your worries.

  • I would contact her too.  Maybe you could also set up a video chat or at least a phone conversation.

  • If you think that you might like her, contact her.  It's not going to hurt.  Like others said, you may be able to do a video chat.  I think that is what I may have to do since I live in NY and am getting married in FL.

  • I agree, contact her and see what your options are. You'll never know unless you check with her. Talking to her on the phone or doing a video chat with her would be a good idea, plus... if she still has family here then there is a good possibility of getting to meet her face to face if she comes to visit before next october.
  • I would go ahead and contact her.  You have nothing to lose and she might be great!

Fi and I are doing most of our planning from out of town, and so far vendors have been more then happy to have phone chats with us.  We booked our photographer, videographer, and DJ without meeting any of them in person and so far it's been working out fine.  We checked vendor reviews before finalizing anything, and so far everyone has lived up to their reputation.

    Good luck!

Thanks girls, you're right. I won't know unless I at least try.  Phone is obviously an option but since I don't have a webcam video chat is out.  Maybe I can get lucky and she'll have an event in the area sometime soon.

Edit: I finally found her price page.  Just having her is more than I really wanted to spend but she adds $850 to travel to Ohio which puts her officially over my budget.  So the search continues.

  • I agree with everyone.  It never hurts to contact her, you might always be thinking what if, if you don't.  If she still has family in the area there are chances she will come back to visit them or have an event before your wedding.

  • Cant hurt to contact her.
  • I would contact her. I talked to my photog over the phone and fell in love. Her and I fit perfectly. It would never hurt anyways to see her pricing. You dont have to make a decision right away either.

<div>I found her pricing and, if you include the travel expense, she's almost double what I was aiming for. I know photography is one area you shouldn't skimp, but you still gotta stay within your budget. She doesn't fit my budget unfortunately :(  Thanks for the advice though ladies.</div>
