Outdoor Weddings

small, outdoor dessert-only reception?

We are having a very small outdoor wedding/reception (50 people max - more likely closer to 40) in a beautiful park. We have a space to use with an outdoor kitchen. We were planning on a dessert-only reception - with a cupcake tower with the top layer holding the 1 tier wedding cake, cookies, and ice cream (we may even rent an ice cream cart) and/or sundae station. We're going to have beer/wine and soft drinks (all bottles or cans, very informal).

I know we can do whatever we want.... and I definitely don't want to have a full meal. But should we have some type of "real" food? Appetizers or something? I don't even know what I'd have. The ceremony will be around 3pm if that makes a difference.

Any ideas appreciated!

  • I agree with the others.  Even something as simple as nuts, pretzels maybe a snack mix in a nice bowl would be a great and easy addition.  A fruit tray, chese & crackers and even veggies and dip would also be good and go well with the dessert for those that might not be so into a sugar rush.  Besides unless you were just talking sparkling wine or sweet mixed drinks, other alhohal with just deserts sounds a little weird to me.
