Adding "And Guest" to the Wedding Guest List

If some of my friends don't have a spouse but I want to give them the option to bring somebody, do I just add "And Guest" where the Spouse's name appears in the second section when adding Guests to the list?  I want to ensure the Save-The-Date and actual invitation reflect that they are allowed to bring someone, even if it's a random date!

Thanks so much!

Re: Adding "And Guest" to the Wedding Guest List

  • Either "And Guest" or "Plus One" is acceptable.
  • Are you using the Knot's guest list?  I'd highly recommend just creating a spreadsheet of your own for your guest list  - the Knot's IT department has a ton of issues and I've heard of people's information disappearing.

But yes, when sending out STD's & invitations, you can just add "And Guest" to the envelopes.  This is what we did for our single friends.

Since we have a relatively small list, I called our single friends and let them know over the phone.

On the outer envelope of your actual invitation, you shouldn't write "and guest".  If you have an inner envelope, you can write it there.  However, it'd be best to get the name of the person's date (they'd hopefully know this far in advance if it's a DW).  The STDs are a little less formal...

    ETA: Per emily post:

"If you're only using one envelope, include a short note with your invitation: "Dear James, You're welcome to bring a guest to the wedding. Please let me know. Best, Laura." If there's time and James supplies the information, you can send his guest an invitation, too."
  • I was referring to The Knot's Guest List, but there was a suggestion that perhaps I shouldn't rely on that?  That is my main list and I was going to use that for the Save-The-Date email.

I guess now I have to re-enter that information somewhere else?  Grr!  That took me forever! lol
  • If you do re-enter it someplace else, I'd say like PP said do an excel spreadsheet.  They're easy to update and then depending on if you're doing labels or printing on the envelope you can set up a mail merge through word and work it that way.
