Would this look tacky and cheap? (Linen XP)

Linens aren't a big thing on my list of priorities. We aren't having chair covers or anything like that. It's a semi casual reception at a local barn. Our "colors" are neurtrals with some pops of color in the accents in cool colors (antiqued turqouise dresser, green grass in the centerpieces). The centerpieces themselves will be fairly simple. We have large vases (think wide and thick, but about 6"-8" high I think). In the bottom we'll grow fescue and add in white fabric flowers in clusters (think baby's breath). There will be a bunch of candles around them and some will be covered in paper doilies.

Now... I've been thinking of light brown/beige tablecloths (they are round tables). I like the idea of runners, but they all seem so PIA to me and more expensive than I'd like. I ran across this idea and like it:

And I could do it for fairly cheap BUT the doilies would be paper. All of the plates, napkins and serving ware will be by the food as its a buffet. Do you think if I forego runners and add paper doilies at each place setting it would look cheap?

I'm trying to figure this out! It's my latest headache... =P

  • You don't need runners. I think the doilies as chargers would be nice.

I would suggest, however, that you have silverware and napkins at each guest's seat, rather than at the buffet. It's so annoying when you get your plate back to the table and realize you forgot silverware. Plus, having more "stuff" on the table will actually help with the decor - the tables won't look empty and you won't feel like you need to add more to them.
  • I like the doilies and no, paper won't look tacky or cheap.  Ditto PP re: putting everythign but plates at the tables.

<div>I totally agree the only thing is the the napkins are paper and the serving ware is the nice plastic... but plastic nontheless. I'm not sure how I could go about making it look nice on the table...</div>

Since you are using disposables, I think that the doilies - or any other sort of charger - will be out of place, especially if they are on the tables by themselves.

I think your tables will look lovely just as you describe them with the tablecloths, centerpiece and candles.

If you are in need of tablecloths you should check out smartyhadaparty.com they are extremely reasonable and they have the just like linen tablecloths that are very reasonable and I read that they look horrible so I got a couple to check them out first and they are not as bad as I thought. They look decent and some people won't even know the difference.
