How Early Is too Early

How early is too early to send out your invitations?

Our wedding is July 08 - RSVP date is June 14

We were thinking about sending them April 28th (which is 10 weeks before)  but I have also read 12 weeks is good...

Is it 1- weeks from the wedding date or 10 weeks from the RSVP date?

  • 6-8 weeks tops especially because you have 3 weeks between the RSVP date and the wedding. Most people don't know what their plans will be at 3 months out.
  • Thanks, we have a lot of people coming from out of town - I wanted to leave time for travel arrangements and our hall requires a final count 2 weeks before so the 3 week rsvp only gives us 1 week to get in touch with anyone who doesn't respond.
    Thanks again

  • Etiquette doesn't say that 6-8 weeks is the only timeline - that's a guideline, NOT a rule.

Sending them out 10 weeks ahead would not be against etiquette. 12 would probably be the maximum, personally.
  • karlcheryl, do your OOT invites know their invited? If not, give them a heads up via email or phone and still send your invites out 8 weeks ahead.
  • Well, we're sending ours out like 2 months in advance because our RSVP date is a month before since we have a lot of military members in our family who need a lot of fair warning, not to mention out-of town relatives who need to make arraingments.
Also, the seating and food depends on who is showing up and we don't have tons of money to waste if people don't show up.
