s/o racism

There are so many things that roll around in my head, and unfortunately some of them are horrible that I've heard and of course they stick.

I just wish I could literally erase some things from my internal vocabulary.  Blech.

I have a song from childhood in my memory I wish I could erase.  About a guy who used to dig through our neighborhood's garbage, looking for recyclables.  We didn't know that at the time, so we called to him and sang this song, "Trash digger, you dirty nxxx."  Yeah, real classy.  My mom heard us singing it one morning and I got my first grown-kid public spanking ever.

I had to ask someone not to use the n word this weekend. That was an uncomfortable conversation for everyone.

I've given the stink-eye to my brother on more than one ocassion over "gay" or "f**"  I can't handle that or anything hateful really.

I mean...it's hard to erase, but I can't let people say it in my presence.  It's wrong regardless.

    I think consciousness helps though.

    Although, yeah.
being able to see those damn nuts (what ARE they called?) and not have them be *n* toes FIRST in my mind would be helpful, for one.

    thank you.
I just refer to them as 'those black nuts' becuse I can never remember.

(On the AWwww side, I will say, I'm so proud to have my gramps be my gramps.

Even when he was 'out of it' yesterday, and even though he forgets the 'right' words (he still forgets that 'colored' isn't acceptable), one of the residents yesterday was giving a staffer aand a resident a hard time (based on race) yesterday and gramps was the one to say "Nah, we don't want to do that.  The nice colored girl can sithere"  Because that's who he is.)
