Wedding Invitations & Paper

French theme save the date and invitation ideas

I'm planning a french inspired or Marie Antoinette themed wedding. Any suggestions or photos for save the date & invitations ideas?

Re: French theme save the date and invitation ideas

  • I mean during this era (from a fashion point of view) it was all about feathers, pearls, royal fans and big hair. I mean how can I incorporate this time of history with all these elements, in the stationairy?
  • By Marie Antoinette, people specifically refer to the style in the Palace of Versailles leading up to the Revolution, not to the actual events that took place in history.

And also, Maioza, although I can't specifically help you, this is also my theme!  So happy to see another French-theme bride!

  • I would stick to a neutral palette, which is usually more formal, and use gold instead of silver tones.  I would also use climbing ivy, fleur de lis, etc. as some of the designs.  I think the most important is to use calligraphy or a font that looks like calligraphy to achieve this feel.

You could also incorporate some designs from like an Alice in Wonderland's tea party. I know that technically it's English Victorian era, but the vintage glamour feel is still there.  But that's just my opinion.

  • I am an invitation designer. I do custom invitations. I would be more than happy to create an invitation that encompasses all of what you love about the fashion of that era. Off the top of my head I would say you need:

    letterpress
    gold
    hand lettering
    maybe toile (blue or pink)
ornate and almost overworked (lots of detail)

or you can do a modern take on vintage and be cheeky with paris icons like chandeliers and Eiffel towers

Let me know if I can be of service

Few years back I visited Paris, and fell in love with the city, the elegance and the romance either in Palace of Versailles, Eiffel Tower or the river seine. I'm glad to to see another french-theme bride <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /> as I searched the Knot for french inspired wedding ideas but found few (1 article).
My color scheme will be Dusty pink, Lavender with silver accents, I know that gold is more royal but I've used it before in my engagement party.  Will incorporate feathers and fans in the reception...and still looking for more ideas.

Can you suggest a different idea for save the date using the theme, I don't want the regular postcard shape, or photobooth
  • I'm sorry I'm not much help with the STD and invite idea, but I think that whatever you decide, use a calligraphy font.  The one I suggest is Burgues Script by Ale Paul, which is an old world font that has the feel of that time.

  • Etsy.  Look on etsy.  Find something close and message the seller.  They can probably do custom stuff for you.

  • I agree etsy is great. I considered doing my own website when i went into invitation design, but I love having my shop on etsy. The brides usually want unique and lovely things. I love it when bride's ask me for custom items!

    good luck!

p.s. silver is fine, I think your color scheme sounds lovely.
