Amanda- yes!! Lots of JAX people around here it seems, very cool. Where do you live?

amh- that would be super fun :) I miss my horse a lot whenever I visit FI. Yikes, I probably don't want to know what average board is in the JAX area... do I? I also can't seem to find any barns there (via google) that aren't hunter/jumper... seems like southern FL is where all the dressage happens. boo.

crown- haha :) thank you :D

firsttimer- I really like A line style, strapless. I will post some pics for opinions, I do have pics of me in a few that I liked; but so far I must have tried on at least 80 dresses and there are maybe 3 that I liked on me, and two of them I can't even get in my size (discontinued, would have be altered down to size). The way the bodice looks is really important on me (if I don't want people commenting that they think I'm too skinny on my wedding day)... so beading is good but I'm particular about the pattern/style. Also gathers are good as it doesn't accentuate how thin I am. The big thing here will be price, because I want to spend under 600 after its all said and done, including alterations.. and the dress I liked best so far was 550 off the rack; ugh.

and finally, lol at amh for the lack of normal people in JAX!!! haha

I don't live in JAX yet. I am finishing up my degree in Oklahoma and trying to figure out what I am doing after that...applying for jobs, but as I keep getting reminded by everyone the economy is terrible there compared to OK/TX.

I wanted to chime in about the dress, It should make you look beautifull no matter what. I found a dropped waist A-line looked fantastic on my body. It showed off the best parts of my body and didn't make it look like I was swimming in the dress. You might try and find someone to make you a custom dress, that may be cheaper. I knew with my sister's dress it was cheaper and she got the designer like dress she wanted.

Also, try the little little stores. They are way better at customer service and may throw in things for free...the woman at my bridal shop said she would do alterations for free which really sold me on the dress.

I agree 100% with Amanda - I got my dress at a smaller store (it was ran, owned, and operated by 1 lady!) and had an amazing experiance and got a free sash. It was a thousand times better than the first place I went (horrid!).
I haven't seenbut maybe 1/2 nice english barns. I think Penny Farms charges upwards of $500 a month for partial board (yikes!!) and I heard there is a barn near the equestrian center but I haven't looked into it. I think there is another place in Pointe Verde but they are charging $500+ too. Board is insane here!

fire- have you considered looking into lace? I feel like lace looks ROCKIN on smaller bods, but even I at a size 6 can't pull it off without looking like a chunky monkey. Something else to consider for dress style maybe?
  • edited December 2011
Oh FTL is right! Lace looks amazing on smaller people! AND lace also runs small too, might I add. So it might be easier as well. I went with a lace dress and love it - but I'm definitely working my @$$ off to make sure I look good in it. and not chunky - because it does have a tendency to show anything your insecure about.

Amanda- that's cool, what is your degree in?

ftl- I only have tried one dress w lace (and it was an off the shoulder dress with lace straps and then lace on the bodice) and I hated it; but the biggest thing was that the lace was offwhite on a white dress, so it looked dirty to me. FI LOVES anything with lace in it (and I'm not a lacey kinda girl, so ehh...) so we will see...

Thanks for all the tips on dresses. here are a few pics of the 2 I have tried on that I like so far; and theyre not really very similar. I like the bodice of the first dress better than the second, simply because I'm not crazy about the beading on the bodice of the second dress. Otherwise, I really love the second dress (I love the pleating in the train; simple but very southern feeling!); honestly every time I look at pics of it, it grows on me... haha.

Oh I really love both of those dresses! They look great on you. Who makes them? Do you know? I think I tried on the first one. =)

I'm getting a  dual degree in Management Information Systems and Accounting. Reeeeally nerdy.

oh goodness I most certainly did and I looooooved my dropped waist (I get all cocky just thinking about it :P haha)
WOW that second dress is STUNNING!! and you don't know anorexic in it!!!! I'm a fan of the 2nd bodice myself, but I think it's just because that first dress is a major trend right now so I  have seen it a lot which means it doesn't wow me anymore. I like something a little different, which is why I choose the gown I did. Like the pleating in the second? You never see that. It's a small detail that is INCREDIBLE. ack. Love it.

umm.. yeah your fi and my h are very different haha.. H was like.. NO LACE NO NO NO NO NO when we went shopping... I'm guessing he doesn't like lace but I'm not sure... ;) haha

hahaha amh you're so funny :)I don't think you have that much to worry about.. you're pretty tiny as is. There was no way in hell I was going to try to pull off a lace gown though that's for sure. :P

FTL, I kept telling H I bought an all-lace dress. It was the only preference he had--poor guy hates lace. Obviously I acquiesced.

fire--seriously still loving that second dress....

Thanks ladies :) The first dress is a david's bridal dress... the second dress I can't remember (this is awful because I love it!) I want to say its a maggie sottero or a morilee that is retired? Whatever it is, that makes the dress even more appealing to me, because you won't see anyone else wearing it :D and it's 1/2 off and the least expensive dress I've tried that I liked thus far. Yeah, it's growing on me... It'd have to be THAT dress, altered to fit, but the seamstress for this bridal boutique is super reasonable price wise (bustle is 20 dollars; one of the dresses I tried on I would have had to have shortened from the waist and she quoted me 60 dollars for that... wow).

Off topic - but do you know anything about Cisco and IT asset management? Not sure if it's tied into your degree or not.

I love the second dress. I envy anyone who can wear the dropped waist since I totally can't. I have such a short torso and they just fit me all wrong. I'm so not proportional haha. It looks beautiful on you and its so unique!

I was asking since the company I work for does all that type of stuff :) So I wasn't sure if that was the type of job field she was looking to go into.
