Planner or no?

Hi Knotties-

I don't know if it's worth getting a planner or not... I'm debating it because I'll be in grad school starting 6 mo before the wedding, but the cost for the "whole package" tends to be hefty when I get quotes. Even the "day of the event" package seems extravagant.

Thanks for your words of wisdom!

I think if you can budget it in at least a day of coordinator, it would most likely be worth it. I know the woman I went with started off at just $500. Personally, I just want to alleviate any extra stressors that could arise.

I used Monique with Couture 504 she was great, I hired her for 2 weeks before the wedding, but you have to book her early and she is more than willing to work with all budgets! Http://couture events.webstarts.com Oh and she even helped me when I needed it throughout the planning process.

Meep, I'm in grad school now, and I haven't had any issues planning the wedding and balancing it with classes, work, and life. I know some people can have stressful experiences with wedding planning, but it's been really painless for me, even with everything else going on.

I'd just stay organized and get things done early. My FH is in law school, and I'm in grad school at Tulane, so we are having a long engagement to make sure we're set. I booked the reception and the photographer way in advance, but we're taking our time with it to enjoy the process, you know?

All in all, it's not really all that hard if you stay on top of things. Maybe, like Queen Jane said, a day-of-coordinator would be nice, but as for an overall planner, I'd save the money for something else. Hope this helps!

I would DEF recommend a planner...no matter what. I'm so thankful I had GetPolished! My family, wedding party, and us could just have fun and let them take care of it!

Are you an OOT bride, or are you here in the city? I'm not having one, but I feel that if I were planning from somewhere else, it would definitely be worth the extra expense to have a planner help me out. I also work full-time and go to grad school at night, so I'm in the same boat and, so far I've been doing okay with it...but I'm having both the ceremony and reception at the same venue and the venue provides a coordinator for the day of, so that makes things simpler.

I'm an OOT bride, but am from NOLA, and my mother is there (which can actually make it worse sometimes, lol just kidding). It seems like everyone is split on whether or not to go for it, so I will probably just keep getting quotes until I hear something that sounds like it is in our budget. I have a decent sized budget to work with, I am just still on the fence as to whether it's a waste or not. I will keep you ladies updated! Thanks for sharing!!!

I am an OOT bride using Get Polished. They are sub par so far, especially since they had such rave reviews. I thought about switching, but with the wedding fast approaching, i'm stuck. Hoping they will pull through on the Big Day, but wish i would have used someone else.

Sara I would love to hear about your experience. Get Polished just ended thier contract with me after taking my money and doing nothing but causing me stress adn heart ache for a month. After a full 30 days they hadnt even bothered to go see the room I wanted to do my reception in and then Emily had the nerve to say she was canceling because I dont trust her. Your right I didnt. She droped me in the grease, wasted my time and took my money. She is so busy trying to start her Bride's Lounge that she is NOT NOT NOT focused on her business. VERY DISSAPOINTED

Posted by adaleo[/QUOTE] I'm sorry for your bad planner experience but I'm sure your wedding will still be a hit. I have Nikki with 318 Designs and I can't say enough how much I love her! She's down to earth and worth every penny. I'm completely comfortable with Nikki. She has a great team and my family adores her. If you look around I think she has a few brides on the boards and they love her to! I don't know if yall are still looking but her number is 504-345-6955. Good luck with everything

I would also definitely recommend Courtney MacBeth (Kismet Weddings and Events). I am an OOT bride planning for an April 2012 wedding and she has been wonderful so far! She is very flexible and resonable as far as packages go, she gets back to me very quickly when I contact her, and she is very interested in trying to understand the vision of what you want your wedding to be, no matter what your budget (mine is actually pretty small). I would highly, highly recommend her!

adaleo - did you get your money back from Emily since she cancelled the contract? I am also having a pretty bad experience as well and am debating whether to fire Get Polished or try to salvage the relationship by telling her what I am so unhappy with (poor communication, giving me false info, no follow-thru or attention to detail). Anyone have some advice to share?

It's totally worth it. The biggest issues doesnt come until wedding day and it would be smart to have some one there other than your family to have the backend covered so you can enjoy the moment. We hired 318 Designs and it was best. I did not want to deal with vendors on my day!
