Help with picking a photographer

Can anyone give any suggestions on picking a photographer? I feel like it is hard to pick just on work alone. I highly doubt that a photographer would use his or her's worst work in a portfolio. Also, if anyone has any referrals for photographers in the Columbus area, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Help with picking a photographer

  • Oh fm photo her name is Becky she is amazing to work with but can be hard to get. She was unavailable for my wedding but I did a session with her this fall with my daughter and fiancé. We had a blast and our pictures are gorgeous!
  • We are using Matthews Wedding Photography. We love their work and prices. They customized a package to help us stay within our budget. www.matthewsphoto.net HTH! Good Luck!
  • Adam Lowe Photography!!!  Awesome work and soooo fun to work with!
  • Depending on the styles you like, I know people who have had great experiences with:
Picture the Love Photography (they're pictures were amazing, but kinda expensive)
    Harrington Photography (much cheaper)
Curtis Wallis (My friend LOVED him and has some flexible packages)

Look  at a wide variety of photographers and look for styles that you like and determine things that are important. When my best friend and I were looking at photographers for her wedding, we found several whose pictures just weren't "her," like a lot of their portraits were taken doing weird serious poses or tons of poses in strange places. She really likes more artistic styes, while I am looking towards more straight forward, classic styles. Decide if you like photographers that go through and do a lot of editing (filters in photoshop, lighting adjustments) or I've seen some that take overly saturated photos- a style that's popular right now, but not what I want. As I'm looking, I don't need/want as much emphasis on the small details and more on the people, nor do I care as much about pictures of me getting ready.

  • It's hard to make a suggestion without knowing your target price range. They can go from anywhere around $1K all the way up to $4K or more.

We decided to stay on the lower end of the range and are using Lindsey Scholz Photography. She is a sweetheart and does beautiful work.

  • we're using Jessica Love Photography. When we met, she brought with her a full DVD of an entire wedding - so we could see EVERYTHING (we took it home, viewed it there. there were like 1000 pictures!!!) She offers a single shooter and two shooter package, then hourly rates. Hope this helps!
