Cruise Honeymoon Registry?

My FI and I have been talking about a registry lately. We have plenty of stuff in our home and don't really need anything extra. We have planned a nice cruise honeymoon, about a week long. I noticed on Royal and Carnival that you can register for excursions onshore.

We would request, for example, 2 $20 gifts for..scuba diving, or something along those lines. It can be used for speciality foods and drinks onboard, also.

What do you think of this idea? Is it too strange, or possibly rude?

It's really better to just create a small store registry, this is a signal to guests that you prefer cash, and then can pay for these items yourself.

This, honeymoon registries are deceptive and a rip off.

    Hey Tim and Ashley,
I suspect the naysayers have never used a honeymoon registry. Deceptive and a rip-off? To the contrary. We loved our honeymoon regsitry and so did our guests. Our guests wanted to give us what we really wanted for our wedding, so they loved the honeymoon regsitry idea! They were charged a 7% fee at checkout and we recieved 100% of the gift funds. Like you, we didn't need more stuff for the house. The folks at http://HoneymoonPixie.com were very cool - they wired the money directly into our bank account, had great communication, free tools and stuff. We had the trip of a lifetime thanks to our registry and our wedding guests generousity. But you need to do what is best for you. -Jas

So someone giving you $100 actually paid $107. When they could just have written you a check or given you a $100 bill. How does that not strike you as deceptive? Seriously?

  • I registered for my Carnival Cruise and my friends and family mentioned that they LOVE the idea. I also registered at Bed, Bath & Beyond for the people who did not want to give money toward our honeymoon. I have received a lot of the things I registered for at my showers. My fiance and I will be able to have a better honeymoon because of the gifts people are giving.
  • This is crazy... where are you getting your etiquette tips?

We think the fee is justified as the customer service is there and it's like getting charged taxes when they buy something at a store.

    The Emily Post Institute says:

    Explore alternative registries.

You're not limited to just registering for "stuff." You can also register for a honeymoon or other trip ..
