8 pounds to lose looking for support :) any other shorties out there!?

hi guys
im sara and i got engaged in march . my wedding is sept 1 , 2013.i have about a year and 4 months which i know is a long time but i have been trying to lose weight anyway.
I have recently lost about 6 pounds .. i was down to 115 but the last few days i have been making excuses and eating crap at work.. i am now up to 117.8 :(
SOOOOO being that it took me forever to get to 115 I refuse to go UP instead of DOWN with my weight.
I am 4"11" so im short.. eating too much is all too easy when you are my height.
BUt I know I can do it. i have maintained around 108-110 in the past.
I do not want to try on dresses until i get to 112 . Any other short girls here or ladies trying to get the last 5-8 pounds off?
What are you doing in terms of food?
Thanks!

Re: 8 pounds to lose looking for support :) any other shorties out there!?

  • I'm not short, but I'm down to 7 pounds left.  You have plenty of time to lose it easily.  I ordered my dress is the size I was 2 months ago (20 pounds heavier than I will be in another 2 months when I pick it up), but I know it can be alterted so even if you end up having to dress shop with a couple of extra pounds, it can be fixed on the flip side when it comes in.

As to what I'm doing, I have 100 days left before the wedding, but only 2 months before my dress comes in.  That gives me about 8 weeks so a pound a week is totally doable and easy.  My best advice is no to buy the crap in the first place so you aren't as tempted.  I try and keep junk food out of my house for my sake and my kids'.  They only get one soda a week and that's on Friday which is stay-up-as-late-as-you-want night.  I used to drink lots of diet cherry Dr Pepper, but I cut that out, too.  I work from home and homeschool so it can be tough to resist things if they're in the house.

Drink as much water as possible, look more at a food's carb and sugar content than anything else and try and cut out processed foods.  I know that can be easier said than done, but it really doesn't take much time to throw a bunch of grapes in a little cooler to snack on rather than Cheetos.

Also, working out just 2-3 days a week will help a lot.  I would start taking measurements and not looking at the scale as much.  Also, remember that as women, our weight can fluctuate a lot from one day to the next with swelling and water weight and our cycles.  I wait until I've weighed the same for several days before I acknowledge that weight.

One last thing, not sure if you're a crafter or plan to DIY any of your wedding stuff, but I am and it has really helped keep me from munching.  It's really hard to stuff your face when your hands are covered in fabric glue or you're beading a pair of barefoot sandals. :)

  • Hi Sara

You should sign up on myfitnesspal.com! I love it! ( it helped me lost close to 40 lbs)

Also, gaining a few lbs in a few days is more just your body flucuating. ( High Sodium/sugar/ undigested food) So dont sweat it. Try to stay within reason of food, and try to stay a deficit of calories for the week. =) Congrats on the big day..
  • I know your pain... I am only 5'2 so every little bit or so shows up on your body. I just cut out most enriched flour and stick with whole wheats to cut down on my carb intake a bit. Combine with some exercise and I can usually shed a bad week pretty quickly!
  • I totally feel your pain! I'm 5'1 and have gained about 15 lbs over that last 5 years with my Fiancee (his appetite is herendous) Every pound shows and I'm now totally demotivated! I'm a vegetarian so vegetables aren't the problem. I cut out most of my carbs except complex ones and I can't seem to loose more then 5 lbs!!! Going to try drinking a lot more water!!!

I hope that weight just melts away from you!! Have you tried a detox? It how I lost most the weight I have. I did one called Holy Tea. You make it an Ice tea (add some lemon slices, it taste good) and drink one cup in the morning an one a bed for a couple days. It doesn't taste bad and makes you feel so light by the end.

    Good luck!
  • Hey, I'm also 4'11"!  Gaining weight when we are so short is the worst - way too easy.  I'm trying to drink only water and lay off of the snacking!  Eating protein with all meals is helpful too.  Maybe keep track of what you eat on myplate.com - just being aware of what you are eating makes you think about what goes in  your body.  And don't forget to exercise regularly!  But you have lots of time and you will look great!

  • I'm 5'3 and I'm getting married about the same time as you. Due to how active I am I try not to pay attention to the scale too much. I used to maintain about a 113 weight but reccently over the last 18 months I've gone to about 118. However my body fat went from 17% to about 14.5% so I just ignore the weight part and pay attention to how my clothes fit and my body fat ratios. My soon to be fiance says I actually look skinnier now than when we met, I also have a lot more muscle definition which is hard to build when you're built like a ballerina.

  • I'm in the same boat as you, I'm 5'1" and would love to lose inches around my thighs and midsection.  I've started watching what I'm eating, eating more salads and I just recently started making green smoothies for breakfast.
I don't seem to be making any progress which is so discouraging.  I'm getting married this September, so I've got less than 5 months until the wedding and 3 months until my first dress fitting.

  • Join the 90 day Body by Vi Challenge.  I lost 6 pounds in my first week.  The shakes by themselves taste like cake mix and are amazing, but can also be mixed with other things to create shakes that taste like apple pie, peanut butter cup, etc.  When compared to other products on the market, Vi shakes are lower in calories and carbs and have no added sugar.  It will taste great and leave you feeling fuller longer.  Check out this website and let me know if you have questions :)

With Body by VI, your goal is definitely possible.
