Can we make a list of Host Gifts?

I am feeling at a loss for hostess gifts. My Aunt that is hosting my shower has everything!

I think I have my MOH covered for the Bach Party - She just graduated Law School and I purchased a Leather Coach Tote for her Mac Book but wondering if I should fill it with goodies?

What did/are you getting for those that host your shower/bach party?

Oh geez, how am I unaware of these gifts?? When do you give them, at the actual party? If I do, I'll prob give each a nice bottle of wine or something. Everyone knows that I am strapped for cash with all of the wedding expenses.

I know it sounds generic, but I think most people enjoy a good GC to a favorite restaurant, or store, etc. I love getting GCs for restaurants.

Whenever my FILs host something I always try to think of something nice but fun - they are also ones who have EVERYTHING. The big hit this year at Christmas was when I bought one of the Gma's an Edible Arrangement with a nice "thank you" note for hosting.

For Bridal Showers, Bach Parties, Couples Showers and whatever else I will be a part of now until October I will probably enlist my FMIL in helping me choose a nice wine and then get the hostess/host a gift certificate for a resturant!

I'm probably doing wine, nice soy candles or those really addicting dips that they have at Le Gourmet Chef! No budget for me, either :)

As far as I know: it is an etiquette must to thank whomever is throwing you the party (Bridal Shower or Bacholerette Party). Thank you can range from gifts to a personalized note I believe.....

ETA: I believe they are given right before or after the party -- the two bach parties I attended neither gave a thank you and as a one of the hosts I was offended. They can get to be spendy and to not mention it in a card or give at least a verbal thank you, sucks.

Makes sense. I have given several parties and have never received a gift, just a thank you card and that was fine with me. Something to think about...thanks!

    I had a couple showers.

Shower 1 - thrown by my sisters. I got them both a yankee candle because I know that they like them and they're not inexpensive to get.

Shower 2 - thrown by my childhood best friend and her mom - I got a bottle of wine and a bunch of cheeses from Surdyks because they were leaving the next day for a week long vacation at their cabin and they like that kind of stuff.

Shower 3 and Shower 4 - thrown by my one of my Dad's employees and DH's Aunt/Godmother. A bottle of basil infused olive oil (note - don't make it yourself because it can't be stored more than a few days without growing botulism. I bought it from the Golden Fig folks and it is safe to consume and oh so delicious!) and a matching really nice Le Creuset spatula.

Everyone got a thank you as well.

When I had my baby showers I gave the following gifts: :)

FI's 2 cousins threw me a shower so I baked them each an apple pie, 100% from scratch - which really took some work so I feel like it was a "good gift" plus they are both total foodies.

2 of my friends threw me another shower so I got one of them (who happens to love Vodka Gimlets) a bottle of Skyy Vodka and a bottle of Rose's Lime Juice

The other one I know is really in to B&BW so I got her some lotions in her fav scents.

Otherwise you could do like "baskets" - say a "movie night basket" with a chick flick, a bag of popcorn and a couple of diet sodas or something.
    Wine baskets are always nice,

or a "girls night basket" with some magizine - be it Redbook, Cosmo, Stars etc and then some stuff for pedicures and facial masks etc...

Or Maybe the host likes some kind of craft like scrapbooking stuff or other craft? Or GC to a book store if they like books? Some new cookbooks, who doesn't love one of those?

I wanted to mention this too - if you're tempted to get the host a ton of smelly lotions and bath products be SURE that it is something that they'd like. I see a lot of "I really enjoyed my shower so I hope that you get to enjoy yours" styled gifts and I cringe every time.

I'm really allergic to most of that stuff but get it All.The.Time. as birthday gifts from DH's family members and as thank yous. It all gets donated or re-gifted. :( If you're not sure what they'd like, it is perfectly OK to play it safe and do a gift certificate to a bookstore, craft store, amazon.com, restaurant, etc.

Love this thanks for sharing it! I'm an April (showers) bride so it's perfect for this time of year too!
