Engagment Party Recipes.

I originally posted this on one of the main boards.  The people on this board seem to be more helpful and thoughtful than those on other boards.  I will be using this board from now on.

We're hosting our House Warming/Engagement party in two weeks. We bought our house in November and got engaged in February. We wanted nice weather, and a chance to get the house really nice looking before we had extended family over. I'm really excited to host a big family gathering for the first time because I am a first time home owner. Everyone that has RSVPed offered to bring a dish. I was really excited to do all the food myself, but it's fine that people want to bring things. However, since this is my first time hosting, I would like to make something that will stand out. We're supplying meat for the BBQ and I'm making bride and groom cake pops. But I would like to make an appetizer or something that will wow everyone. Any ideas ladies?

Re: Engagment Party Recipes.

  • Congrats on your engagement and recently becoming a homeowner!! So many great things going on. I love this board and the girls. I tend to stick to here.

I do a lot of dips at my parties...haha

    Chip Dip
    1 container of sour cream
    1 jar of salsa
about the same size containers, mix them both in a bowl, chill and serve with plain Ruffles or Tostidos

    Buffalo Chicken Dip
    8oz. soft cream cheese (block/pckg)
    1lb. chicken
    1c shredded cheddar cheese
1c ranch (some people do blue cheese)
FRANKS red hot sauce (Not buffalo, just plain) its really not that "hot"
Cook chicken in pan, after, cut up very finely. Mix chicken, cheese, cream cheese, ranch, and hot sauce together. I like serving this warm so I will heat in microwave before serving...BUT it is good either way. I also like serving this with "Chicken in a Biscuit" crackers, yes...there is a such thing. If you cant find, club crackers are better to eat with.

    Apple Dip (more dessert type)
Sliced Applies (however many for people to use in the dip)
1 package of Heath toffee bits (Bit - o - Brickel)
1 package of soft cream cheese
    1c. brown sugar
    1/2c. sugar
mix the cream cheese, surgar(s), and toffee bits together, I let chill for a bit, then you can serve with your apples

Let me know if you have any luck with these. They are always a huge hit at parties!! :)
Chip dip and buffalo dip are requested every time I bring a dish anywhere.

Good Luck, let us know how it turns out.

Congrats on all your big accomplishments!

I make a similar chip dip as fishin but instead of sour cream I use softened cream cheese and call it Frito dip, lol.  Her Buffalo chicken dip sounds yummy too.

I also make a chili dip that I make in a pie plate.  I put cream cheese on the bottom, then a can of no bean chili and top with mozzarella cheese heat until the cheese is melted and serve.

  • Those dips sound fantastic!  Thanks girls!  I was trying to over complicate things.

  • My water chesnut apps get requested at every gathering... super easy and really good.

Take a couple cans of water chestnuts, drain the water and fill with soya sauce. Let it refrigerate overnight.
Drain soya sauce. Take a water chestnut and roll it in white sugar. Wrap it in a piece of bacon (I cut my whole package into quarters length-wise) and stick a toothpick through it. After they're all done likewise, bake at 350 for about forty five minutes.

    Good luck with the dinner!

  • Here's one that every one always loves at our parties and it's served with fruit: 1 package whipped cream 1 package sour cream 1 marshmallow whip the one in a package Mix it all together. It will stay somewhat lumpy add can get a little messy, so use a bigger mixing bowl and transfer to a serving one.

  • I do a similar fruit dip, but only with...

1 8oz block of cream cheese
    1 jar of marshmallow fluff

Beat together with a handmixer and refridgerate. Serve with firm fruit; we usually do grapes, strawberries, melon chunks, etc.
