Where do you shop for wardrobe basics? And other Recs..

I'm looking for some more tops/shirts/tanks etc. I'd really like some more color in my wardrobe without breaking the bank.

I'm planning on looking at Forever21, Target and Tilly's today.

Where do you shop?

Also, recommend a good Top Coat. And anything else you're loving right now.

  • Hi hi hi hi!
I'll start with the top coat. Out the Door. FABULOUS. And it dries in like 2 minutes.

Shopping wise, I second Target and Forever 21. Also, H&M, JC Penney, TJ Maxx (although that's hit or miss, obviously), and Marshall's (also hit or miss).

Target has some great stuff out right now, as does JC Penny (and I think they're probably having a sale, because they always seem to have one).

Also, I'm not familiar with Tilly's. Teach me, please and thank you.

  • For basics I definitely stick to Forever 21, H&M, Target and Express. They are all easy, on the cheaper side (except for Express sometimes) and don't vary in size very much.

  • Hahaha Con I love you.

I'll probably check out Sally's when I'm down there for Target. I saw a really cute dressy top at F21 when I walked through to use the bathroom, so I'm going to try it on when I'm off work.

  • You know, I don't really have basics. I did just get tanks in every color at forever 21 but I suck at basics. Gap is good for that though. I also love H&M but last time I was there everything sucked. Though, if I remember correctly, they looked like they had good basics.

Random Rec- Clinique high impact mascara. I got a free sample and HOLY CRAP! It made me look like I had gorgeous falsies on.

  • TARGET!  I get all kinds of basics there.  H&M has good, cool and trendy tanks--like oversized ones with leggings, etc, and they're cheap.
  • For basics I love Old Navy...they have great basics like tops, tanks, tees, polos for cheap and usually have a sale!!

  • Nates, is your sig from last night?? It's cute!

We don't have an H&M! Cry
  • ON has BOGO right now, too.

And yes it is!  We had such a great time! /threadjack.
  • SF HAS ONE SF HAS ONE!!!!!
  • ditto Old Navy.  They do big sales with like $5 tanks and I buy one of every color.  I do the same with their $2 flip flop sale.
  • Target and Dress Barn for me!

  • I KNOW ROXY. SO DOES SAN RAFAEL. But I'm not going to drive 40minutes to save a few bucks on shirts. Lol.
  • I'm also going to rave for a minute about my new favorite beauty find. It's like a finishing spray for makeup - I got it at DB and it's made by Skindinavia. It's expensive, but spray that shiit on and your makeup isn't gonna budge. I love it.

  • but, but, but....okay.
  • Target is best on wear and tear in my experience. The problem I have with Forever 21 and H&M is that their clothes just don't hold up so you end up spending just as much to replace as getting a well put together J Crew tank.

    Oh, that's true.
  • J. Crew does have amazing ribbed tanktops. Couple of years ago I splurged and got one in every color and theyr'e amazing.

Oddly I pay more for basics I am going to wear over and over like white shelf bra tanks or black tees but way less on trendy items.
  • I have a favorite second hand clothing store that I get ALOTof stuff from. I second dress barn, i was always like omg so old lady but once i went in there i realized their clothes just fit me better, im curvy and juniors sizing doesnt do well for me.

Also, Roxy and CCF you guys are bay area? My fiance's parents live in Dublin, we met at CSUEB in Hayward :)

I can't normally stand anything 'trendy'. My normal outfit is jeans, converse and a shirt/sweater/sweatshirt. I'm trying to at least bring more color into it, but it will still basically be the same thing. Hahaha.
  • I used to love Forever 21, but now every time I go in there it's just, "WTF." It would take me 3 tops to make one top's thickness,a lot like M&M was saying. Well, that, and the style has changed, imo, more trendy.

Nates- you're so purdy. I loved your hair and makeup :)

I think my big problem with Forever 21 is that everything is pastels and floral designs. Ick.

Sounds comfy! And honestly, I don't think I have bought anything other than work clothes in at least 6 months so I miiiight not be the best person to ask. Forever 21 hurts my eyes sometimes when I go in there so I guess that just means I am behind in the neon trend lol.

What about buying cool accessories to liven up your outfits? You can get fun scaves and watches and headbands as accent pieces at a quarter of the price of a whole new outfit. Just do a focus point?
