Aisle Runner or No Aisle Runner?

I am trying to decide if I should have an aisle runner for our outdoor ceremony in October. My original plan is to line the aisle with rose petals along with shepards hooks and lanterns, but i'm worried about how my dress would fare with this. What is your opinion on this?

Not doing one, as we will have a hard time keeping it down on our stone walkway!!

Aisle runners often bunch up and get snagged easily which makes it a magnet for tripping in your wedding dress. No bride wants to do that.

I am probably doing an aisle runner just so the fake leaves my FG will be dropping will be visible. My church has a dark red carpet running down the aisle and I don't think thel leaves will show up.

I too have had the same thoughts, but then I tried to imagine what it's like to walk on fabric in the grass, if you're wearing heals they may sink down and get snagged on the runner.

If you go with the flower petals they do offer some protection, but anything that gets on the dress will be on the under side of the it. And some one will hold up your train every second accept for the 10 second walk down the isle.

But go with what you think will look best and fit best for you and your FI

I don't really like the look of aisle runners so I voted no. I think your original plan will look way better IMO.

Thankyou everyone for your input, it makes me feel better about my original plan. I found a picture of an outdoor ceremony setup similar to what I want to do, but the aisle will be extended out with the shepards hooks. Oh, and without the oceanview in the background, however that would be really awesome!

I vote without. But then again, I think they're just a wedding-industry scam being sold as traditional and necessary when its neither. So I'm a lil jaded.

I think if you don't want one, you definitely don't need it. I want to have one because I'm nervous about my dress getting dirty, but it's more about that than decor.

I wouldn't use an aisle runner outside, the grass is too bumpy and I think there's a higher probability that the runner would get bunched up or someone would trip over it. I would define the aisle by the shepard's hooks or flower petals.

We're using an aisle runner, but the ceremony is inside and the floors are marble. I'll make sure there's something non-slip under the runner. The main reason we want to use the runner is because I want flower petals (fake ones, so they don't stain my dress) on the aisle. If we didn't use the runner, I don't think they would show up on the floor.

I wanted one, but my officiant recommended against it since it's an outdoor wedding and it would probably blow all around rather than lying flat. My wedding will be on a deck so there's also a slipping hazard.

If you do use one I would recommend either getting an expensive heavy one that won't blow as much, or setting it out before the wedding and holding it down with weights.
