Cosmetic Advice

The stylist who is doing my hair and makeup is great at both, but she doesn't do makeup for a living, she does hair. Therefore, she doesnt have a huge collection of makeup and needs me to provide my own face makeup because she doesn't have my color.

I normally just buy makeup from Target.....I think I use maybelline or something. haha. But I know that won't cut it for the wedding day. I need something that is going to give great coverage, be long lasting, and last through lots of sweat and tears....it's an outdoor wedding in July.

Soooo, I have a $100 Nordstrom gift card and was thinking of going to a cosmetic counter to get some good stuff for the wedding. But there are so many and I don't know a lot.

What is your opinion about the best place to go in Nordstrom to get the best make-up for the best value? .....I don't want to spend much more than my $100 card.

THANKS!!!!

My preference is MAC ... they'll do a free trial run if you want to test it out, and see how it wears.

Do you need "super pale"? If you do, I feel your pain! I would ask your stylist what brand she likes the best. Presumably she gets feedback about what products she uses. Or, ask her if she has any more make-up centered stylist friends and have her ask them what they use. Or, if you have a hair stylist you usually go to, they can ask the make-up people at the salon. I think any counter at Nordstrom will let you try it out before you buy, but since you don't have a lot of time before your wedding, it'd be nice to get a good idea before you go. Good luck!

Lancome has a great foundation called "Photogenic" it has SPF and stays all day! The coverage is wonderful and they will give you a sample to try! Give it a shot! I love mine, and my sister actually recommended it to me after she used it for her wedding.... Good Luck!!!

I would try to go into Sephora first and see if you can try stuff out and ask for samples.  I know there are a couple of guys in the downtown location that do outside work for magazines and commercials as well, and I'd ask them for suggestions on foundation and color shades that 1. last a long time and 2. don't reflect back in photos.  The problem is that a lot of shadows and blushes have a shimmer base which can reflect off a camera's flash and make you look way overdone.  I love Nordstrom as well, but most of the people behind the counter work for a specific brand and won't show you what else is out there.

If you're skin's on the lighter side, I highly recommend checking out the Burberry counter. Their foundation is pretty amazing, and they do great at matching paler girls.

I'm not in love with Mac foundation, but other's like it. I also really like Dior Airflash. I also like Laura Mercier.

Although what I would likely recommend, is going to Nordstrom and making an appointment with a beauty stylist (some info here: http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/nordstrom-stylists?origin=footer).
