Seafood. Discuss.

Re: Seafood. Discuss.

  • I have been known in the past to eat some popcorn or coconut shrimp but I had to be in a special mood. I have had crabs and lobster, too, but it's certainly not in my Top 10 of foods to choose from the menu.

Why?   I tried sea urchin but it wasn't that tasty to me, just sort of...ocean-y.  I wouldn't eat it again.  I also tend to avoid plain old fishes, too boring. Discuss.  I love it.  Shrimp, lobster, crab, scallops, eel, salmon, calamari, mussels, oysters, tuna canned or fresh, I could go on.

  • So, do you like seafood? YES
    Does your S/O? YES
What is your (S/O's) favorite? Salmon at Outback steakhouse, which sounds stupid since it's a STEAKhouse.
Least favorite? with lots of bones
Is there seafood you won't eat? Why?  Slimy like oysters.
Discuss.  I won't cook it at home, because then the whole house would smell like catfood, and DH and I are both allergic to aroma sprays and candles.
  • I love seafood like woah.  I could eat nothing but.

FI is meh about it- he'll eat it, but he doesn't crave it or anything.

    HA! I'm LOLing for real.
  • Mmmm. Seafood. I like it all, except for octopus and eel. *gag*

DH on the other hand likes very little. Fish & chips are okay, bacon-wrapped scallops on the BBQ are okay, and shrimp if they're warm. Cold shrimp are a big no-no for him; apparently they're like dead fingers.

  • Love it.  I think a lot of the people who don't like it feel that way because they've never had good seafood, and if all you have had is bad (frozen, canned, bony, or other), you're not really inclined to try it again.

Before we moved to West Bumblefuck we ate at McCormick and Schmick's a lot, and I know that place converted a lot of my non-seafood eating friends to seafood lovers.

The only things I don't like are octopus and scallops.  I don't like the chewy texture.

Sashimi-grade raw or barely seered tuna and soft-shell crab are my favorites.

We just discovered a seafood market in our town and it is awesome.  The owner used to be a captain of a fishing boat off the coast of south Florida.  I really hope he's able to stay open.  We got some cod from him and beer battered it Easter weekend, and a couple days ago we got some tuna steaks.
  • I love, love, love seafood.  Except for squid, it too chewy for me.  H has a shellfish allergy, and he won't eat any other kind of fish.  It was a shame, we were at a friend's wedding this past weekend, and most of the o'dorves (sp?) were seafood.  Great for me...H not so much.

I *think* that Trader Joe's sells a seafood sausage, if you have one nearby.

What is your (S/O's) favorite? I LOVE lobster and salmon and crawfish. FI's favorites are crawfish and oysters, with tabasco and horseradish mixed, and everything on top of crackers.
Least favorite? I HATE the oysters.
Is there seafood you won't eat? Why?  oysters. they physcially make me sick. I have to turn my head and smell something else when FI eats them.
Discuss. love seafood, love cooking it, love the way most of it smells (just not oysters). love tuna in a can. :)

fortunately, I live close enough to the coast that seafood is a fairly regular occurence for us.

  • i eat all whitefish - cod, haddock, halibut.  i also love salmon, crab and shrimp, but the shrimp has to be hot, i dont like cocktail.

hubby will eat salmon and the whitefish, as well as tuna in a can (barf!) but wont touch shellfish as he thinks tehy are "bottom dwellers" and doesnt like that they crawl around on teh ocean floor.

i grew up in VT and hated all fish until 8 years ago when i moved to MA and started trying stuff.  i think its a freshness thing.
  • I friggin love seafood.  Any form, all forms.

I love catching fish and cooking it that night.

I'm allergic to shellfish, but I have eaten it, and I love it.  My reactions have gotten worse as I've gotten older so I don't eat it anymore.

I can't go for sushi very much either because their fish touches their shellfish.  It makes me sad.

    It's delicious.

Robert likes shrimp cocktail and teriyaki salmon and things that don't even taste like fish so it makes me sad.

[QUOTE]Whit & I are currently talking about seafood. I, for one, strongly dislike most (if not all) seafood. Canned tuna is the absolute worst, but I just made J Tuna Helper for lunch because he asked for it. It smells like cat food in my small apartment. It's just gross. So, do you like seafood? Does your S/O? What is your (S/O's) favorite? Least favorite? Is there seafood you won't eat? Why? Discuss.

We both love fish and seafood.  A lot.  I'm not sure what H's favorite is, probably salmon.  I don't think he has a least favorite.  I pretty much like any fish/seafood I've tried.  I LOVE squid and shrimp and scallops and crab and lobster and crawfish and red fish and blue fish.  One fish, two fish.

  • I like seafood.  My favorite is scallops.  I can't cook fish to save my life to though.  You'd think it would be easy, but I cook the driest, most offensive fish...

  • I like all seafood except oysters.

I love love love love love snow crab. It's my most favorite food ever I think. But I say the same thing about lobster and fresh salmon as well.

I don't like tuna either, canned or fresh, actually. But I like canned salmon.

Mark loves crab legs and scallops (cooked med-rare), and pickeral, but won't eat fishy fish, lobsters, mussells, or anything other than what I listed, with the exception of fresh shrimp on the beach in Mexico. He loves those too.

  • I love it - DH; yeah, no.

But, I am picky about what I like - lobster is top of the list, crab legs, (I do not like soft shell crab, I discovered), shrimp, scallops. I like tuna - both the "real" fish and the canned fish. I also like tilapia. Clams, mussels, oysters are on the NO list.

In fact, lobster and crab meat are probably the two easiest "meats" for me to eat these days, just the hardest to get. J gets the steak when we go to Outback, and adds the lobster tails to it, and that's what it eat.

Closest I get to fixing it at home would be making tuna salad, lettling J do fish on the grill, or fish sticks. I just am not sure I trust what's in our grocery store here.

heels- McCormick and Schmick's = YUM! It's one of my top 3 favorite restaurants.

I love all seafood, while FI is more picky, which is a trend in our relationship. I love all food while he has this weird texture issue.

Also, I love crab and lobster but I hate working for my food.

  • The only things I don't like are octopus and scallops.  I don't like the chewy texture.

If you're eating chewy scallops, you're eating overcooked scallops.

I like only deep fried, battered calamari with tzaziki sauce.

  • I really like seafood, I'm actually making salmon tonight.
FI is slowly starting to like it. He's super picky, though. Crab legs, salmon and shrimp are about it for him.

I can't do slimy stuff like oysters and can't handle the texture of raw sushi. I like most everything else, as long as it's not super fishy. My favorites are salmon, swordfish, shrimp and crab.
  • So, do you like seafood? I am VERY picky, it cannot be a fishy-fish.
Does your S/O? He loves it, he grew up in NS, so he was raised on seafood.
What is your (S/O's) favorite? Mussels and Cod or Lobster. He likes them all.
Least favorite? Anything that is fishy.
Is there seafood you won't eat? Why? Tuna fish.. My cat brought in a bloody mouse and it smelt like tuna fish.. It makes me gag just to smell it.

  • When we go out to eat, we chose restaurants with a big selection of seafood so J can eat it. That's the only time he gets to eat it (and no, we're not talking Red Lobster - gross!). I'm happy with a steak or a burger, so if we go to a seafood specific restaurant, I know there will be something there I can eat. I don't even do Cesar salad because of the Anchovie dressing. Ick!
  • I LOVE seafood and so does Jay, thankfully.

My absolute favourite is grilled octopus, though I'm also really big on some orange roughy on the barbecue.

Jay likes muscles, and they're literally the one thing I won't eat. They just taste like a mouthful of ocean to me. Yeuch.

  • I love seafood!  BUT... when we were in Mazatlan, I ordered a "seafood cocktail" thinking it would be shrimp and cocktail sauce.

THIS is what was put in front of me:

It was disgusting.  It was like chopped up feelers and barnacles. Yell  What made the experience even more pleasant is the fact that the stew was in a ice cream sundae glass.
    image
  • I'm allergic to fish, so obviously I don't eat that. I like shellfish though.
  • I like it, DH doesn't. He'll eat some tame sushi and coconut shrimp, and that's it. I just won't eat things like muscles, clams, and oysters. I'll eat white fishes (not a salmon fan), lobster, crab, scallops, and shrimp. I miss shrimp, since I don't know how ot make coconut shrimp at home. Crab and lobster are my fave.
