Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

Appropriate Music for Sunday Early Afternoon Wedding

First time poster here!

We’re having an early afternoon Champagne Brunch/Tea Party wedding on a Sunday. We have some great ceremony music picked out, some beautiful violin music to play while people are eating, songs for the special dances, but then…no idea.

My mother is very insistent that we need to hire a DJ and play dance music. While I’m not crazy about the idea, I want people to have a good time. The guest list is made up primarily of family in the 40+ range, with only a few friends and cousins in their late teens and 20s, and a handful of children.

My question is, if you were attending a wedding on a Sunday afternoon (ceremony starts at 11:00, reception immediately after at the same venue), what kind of music would you want to be played after the initial meal?

Thank you very much!

Hey!  I'm a Sunday afternoon wedding too!  :)  We ARE hiring a dj, primarily because I have a huge family and I know we all like to boogie!  The bigger question is, do YOU want to dance at your wedding?  One of my good friends had a music and dance-free ceremony and reception and we all still had a great time!

I'm a sunday morning as well and we hired a DJ. I don't want the reception to drag on for hours so our DJ is going to throw in a few of the participation songs: cha cha slide, cupid shuffle, conga line, YMCA etc. We're going to do all the traditions of the garter, bouquet, speeches, cake cutting etc. and pretty much call it a day.

It really depends on what you want. We aren't serving any alcohol other than our toast so I know people aren't going to be in that party mode. My goal is to do all the traditions, dance a little, eat a little and then go hang out by the pool, LOL.

    Best of luck!!Smile
