It's nighttime somewhere

Re: It's nighttime somewhere

  • I think they expect for you to NOT do it every day. When my cousin had braces, she followed the orthodontist's directions to the letter. Turns out she did it so well that she over did it and had to have her braces on even longer.

[QUOTE]So, we had a kitty crisis today. Sigh. H put freakin' glue boards in the garage to catch crickets, etc. But Emmie also goes into the garage, which H didn't think of. (I am going to chalk it up to his TBI because otherwise I want to punch him.) So I hear poor Em meowing and go into the garage. Poor cat has a glue board stuck on one leg. It was so hard to get it off and she was freaking and I was freaking and uffda. Finally got it off as gently as possible but poor cat ended up having a bit of an impromptu leg-waxing. Sigh.

Aw, poor kitty. But she'll recover. :)

<div>She's OK. I mean, some hair pulled out and she howled but she seems fine now. It scared us both, though. We loved on her extra tonight. </div>

  • Aww poor kitty. One time my H trusted Fox too much and he ran away. I was PISSED. That was maybe one of our biggest fights. Then, I trusted Fox too much and he ran away. I felt so bad for being such a biiitch before to H, and he was really nice when it happened to me.

    Lesson learned.
  • I kind of overreacted probably, but I was so mad at him. I did apologize later. Some of it he truly cannot help.

    Kind of cranky tonight.

Question: When choosing food for your wedding, did you choose all of you and H or FI's favorite things and only those things OR did you take into account that you should have different things for different tastes and be sure the meal is 'balanced' a bit?

ETA: I guess I could post this elsewhere, but I know you chicas know what is up and will give me the straight poop quickly.

  • Wally, I haven't chosen food yet, but I plan to choose it for a variety of tastes.

I chose things I knew most people would like - including a few things I don't like.

<div>I decided that I wanted a "meat" (beef, pork, or lamb), a chicken, and a vegetarian option. When I emailed my caterer to get an estimate, I told him a little about the wedding and what I wanted. He emailed me back with a menu and estimate. He tried to incorportate both British and Southern tastes in my menu. </div><div>
</div><div>I had:</div><div>Mini spinach quiche</div><div>Crab cakes</div><div>Southern salad with Vidalia onions and candied pecans with choice of peach or balsamic vinaigrette dressing</div><div>Rolls</div><div>Garlic mashed potatoes</div><div>Pecan crusted chicken breasts</div><div>Beef wellington</div><div>Corn and mushroom ragout</div><div>
    </div><div>
    </div>
  • Wally - we tried to account for different tastes.  Our favorite dish we tasted at our tasting was a pork roast, but some people - for a variety of reason's don't eat pork.  And we knew some people don't eat red meat.  Whether they also overlap with the non-pork eaters, we didn't know, but we went with chicken for our alternate cause it's more universal.  And then they had a vegetarian option but we didn't put it on the RSVP card.  We let the one vegetarian we knew of know to just write in vegetarian, and figured anyone else would either write it in or get in contact with us.  Since we only invited 115 people, we had a pretty good handle on what our guests ate.  If we'd had a lot of unknowns, we would have included the vegetarian option on the RSVP.

Yum Poke & Loop! That all sounds so good.

I need to be sure DD understands a variety of tastes need to be considered, not just hers. Just wanted to be sure I was, indeed, correct. ; )

Wally, we wanted to make sure that we had something our guests would like, but that we enjoyed, too. It was hard because we had a plated dinenr and wanted just one option. H chose his favorite vegetable, I chose my favorite potato, and then each of our parents came to the tastings and we voted on the meat.

We had roast beef tenderloin with a mushroom demi glace, herd roasted asparagus with a carrot ribbon, and dauphinoise potatoes. Guests had a choice of roll, and the salad was mixed greens with balsamic vinaigrette.

Hors d'oeuvres  is where we chose just our favorites - but it ended up being a good mix.

eta: I should add that I ate chicken fingers with the "adult" sides. I'm not a big fan of red meat :)
  • So I just found out that my babies got adopted. They didn't get adopted together - but they will get to see each other often. The boxer got adopted by a professional groomer and the person that was going to re-home them adopted the other one because she fell in love with his goofy ways. And she sent me a picture of the boxer all dolled up. They even painted her nails!

  • Oh yay, Poke!  That's awesome news.  I'm glad that worked out well.
  • AHHH Poke! Cute! And glad they are going to good homes!

  • Poke, that's so cute! Glad they found homes.
  • Thanks! The best part is that the person that re-homed is a cousin, so we will get pictures and stuff occasionally.

  • That's great, Poke!  Cute pic, love the painted nails.

  • That's awesome. My mom has two shi tzu's who are half brothers, and they get together once a year with all their siblings  :) It's really cute.
  • Ahhh, how cute Leisel. A puppy family reunion. Love it.

  • OMG - so I'm going through my names book and it actually has "Newbie" listed as a name for a boy.  That's not a name... and definitely not one I'd want my child to have to bear through life.
  • Haha Loopy, that's hysterical. I can't imagine someone actually naming their son Newbie. Poor Newbie.

<div>I couldn't even imagine - poor kid. Kids come up with creative ways to make fun of "normal" names. Could you imagine what they could do with that? Or maybe they wouldn't just because it's SO easy.</div>
  • Wow Newbie?  I know books have some terrible names.  It is why my FI hates his name.  His parents got it out of an irish name book and no one can pronounce it when they see it written down.  I hope a beautiful name pops for you and the baby

  • Loopy, do you guys have any names picked out so far?
  • I have way too many names on my "possible" lists - one list for a boy, one for a girl.  I feel like I'm making it harder than it has to be?
  • And hi, ladies.  Popping in for a few...I keep finding new ways to avoid packing.  Challenging a bunch of people to Trivie, online shopping, anything. It's gonna be a long day tomorrow.

It's been a weird day. Just after leaving work I saw a helicopter overhead and figured someone was being airlifted to the hospital down the street but then I see a pickup being chased by about 20 police cars. Passed right by in the next lane heading in the opposite direction.  I swear my heart was racing for the next hour.  Just found out from my coworker that the guy killed himself less than a mile down the street from where I passed him.

I ran 4 miles at the gym and then on the way home we picked up 1200-calorie chicken finger meals. That was a bright idea.

  • Well eventually you will find the perfect name for the baby :)
