I think my cat would complain that we don't feed him immediately when we get up in the morning. It's not long after, but I'd like to get some real clothes on first Baxter. He'd also talk about how spoiled he is because I love on him a lot.
Pink, I've only read the first so far. I need to read the second. It was good - but a little rough for me because of what happened at the end. I was in bed reading and sniffing b/c I was crying and it woke H up and he thought I was crazy.
I don't necessarily know if I believe that the Nazis were able to make their dogs speak and I don't like to even think about what those poor dogs were put through because well, I'm sure it wasn't very nice :-(
Nazis and "experiments" don't conjure up good thoughts for me.
If Berkeley could talk, I think most of her statements would end in exclamation points and would involve food and/or her desire to catch squirrels and ducks. She might occasionally say something like "Is it time for my walk" or "I wish I could sleep in the same room as you and Dad" but I think most of the time she's just excited about every silly moving thing in our home.

I've never heard of Nazis trying to teach dogs to speak before, but I just finished "In the Garden of the Beasts" last night and it mentioned how much Germans loved their animals and how dogs and horses were the only happy creatures in Berlin in the 30s. The Nazi's actually had really strong animal cruelty laws so I don't think they would have conducted any experiments that were harmful to dogs. Dogs were ranked way higher than most people.
We are trying to teach our cat to say mama. It is not working out well and he is just getting fat with treats. We swear that he has said mama and Matt before so we are trying to make it happen again. He is probably just toying with us, he knows how to say it but if he refuses he will get more treats every time he meows anything.
My cat would probably say that he is hungry and tired. My fat dog would say he is hungry and wants to play but then he is tired. My other dog would probably just say "huh???" He is my little special baby.
I'm fairly certain Cooper would say that he needs his own ice cube maker in the freezer because sharing with us is far too much trouble. And also probably he would enlighten me about the magical wonders of Canadian Goose poop and why I should let him eat it.
I am reading Hunting Evil by Guy Walters about the Nazi war criminals who got a way and those who searched for them and it is pretty depressing how sick they were. To treat animals with respect but kill innocent people - makes no sense to me!

Except if the animal was owned by a Jew (who were forbidded to own pets) then the Nazis brutally killed the animals.

Anna, I'm reading that right now. I'm not far along, though.
Those look like they could be part Great Dane? They are hound-looking, for sure.
Max would tell me every time he either wanted out, to move over for him in bed, he wanted a treat, or that he was so proud of himself for behaving when he was left out of the crate between Daddy leaving and Mommy coming home. Then he would tell me to get the hell off the computer. Right now, the closest to talking we get is a Wookie noise. He makes it when he's half whining, half barking at us. I think it's supposed to sound pitiful. We laugh instead.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew

I had not either. Very interesting.
For anyone who reads on this, there is a very easy and very interesting read called " The Wave" but it is about a theory/ experiment on how people in German (those not involved in the Nazi party) allowed all the genocide to happen.
It makes sense that the Jews weren't allowed to have pets since they weren't allowed to have bank accounts or businesses but I never really thought about it either until in a book I was reading recently about a Jewish vet and what happened to the animals under his care :-(
Kate you are lucky. My dogs are nonstop barkers. There are just too many birds, cats, squirrels, deer & bears where I live and they just can't contain themselves. I do appreciate their alerts sometimes because this nosy old man up the road is constantly trying to creep down our street and spy on us or something I don't know but my dogs HATE him. And when they start barking he turns around and goes home.
Kate, Max would tell me he understands why I don't like Canda Geese.
But I'd really like to hear his reasoning on the desperation behind getting to a rabbit and not so much a squirrel or bird.

He's just so funny, he is super nosy and will be all alert, watching people come and go if he's laying out on the balcony. Or if he's inside and hears something outside, he'll go trot out there and sit, observing. But rarely a bark. I've noticed lately that if it's his last bathroom trip before we go to bed and really dark, and someone is walking toward me down the sidewalk or in the parking lot, he will do a quick one, so I think that's his protective instinct starting to come around.
Probably the funniest thing was when an ambulance went down our street. He was outside already and heard the siren get closer and closer. All of a sudden he just lets out this long howl, perfectly in tune with the pitch of the siren, and he howled for as long as the ambulance was in ear shot. He had never done that before and hasn't since. We laughed so hard.
And goose poop...I just don't get it. Dog poop he runs away from but the goose...it's like he found a little morsel of pure gold. Sick.
Kate -- Canada geese poop is like candy to Berkeley. We have a ton of geese around our place, and it's such a pain trying to keep her from eating it as we walk. Gross.

You should read The Dogs of Babel - TR would approve!
Is that picture of Hitler's dogs? I don't really know what kind they are.
