Entertain me

I'm home sick, bored out of my damn mind, and the boards are really quiet.  Anyone have anything interesting to toss out here?  I'll take any kind of distraction.

    COngrats Suz!

We had snow today. First time we had enough to stick since 2/14/2005. I left work early to come sled down the hill across the street from our condo before the kids got out of school and turned it into a mud pit. I went down twice with no sled (led to a very cold butt), and then many more times on my yoga mat. By far the most fun I have EVER had on a yoga mat. I have also never sledded before. I grew up in south central louisiana, where even if it snows, there are no hills. It was a blast!

By the time FI got off his conference call the hill was all muddy and it had stopped snowing. We are supposed to get more tonight, and if we do I'll be back out there again.

Oh, and at work, a professor, my cashier and I made a snowman on the elevated walkway outside our office building. All of us grew up in the same place and had never made a snowman before today. He had M&Ms for eyes and ink pens for arms. There are pictures, but I don't have any yet.

I hope you feel better soon, Aerin. FI is sick too.

  • I am still sicky with boogers....TMI?

I am going to work in 2 hours and I'll be on until 11:30 so we can get a lot of knotting done.

In other news, I went to the Lion King Bway and tour dancers call today and it was brutal! I don't consider myself the best dancer, in fact I am a singer and actress who moves extremely well.....usually when there's a dancer's call, you can still attend and move your way through the combo.....uh yeah....not today. After the first 16 counts of dance, I wanted out of the room. I am glad that I stuck it out, but I could've skipped it.

  • I'm terribly jealous, Sarah.  We only get rain off and on here, which means I have to take the bus to the train station instead of my scooter.  It's lame.

Stina, that's awesome!  I've seen Lion King twice, it's pretty intense on the dance front.  I'm the same way, I'm not the greatest at dance auditions, but I can usually fake my way through.  I would always practice my butt off at rehearsals so I would look good for showtime.

I am a super hard worker and dedicated to improving in dance. I would totally do this too.....I have already improved so much...so I really can't be disappointed. But I should have remembered that LK is a heavy dance show. I was uncomfortable doing the African dance moves. I think they're beautiful, I ust have no experience in that genre.

  • Random question, but have you ever seen Lion King in Vegas?  I can't figure out whether it's a condensed version or not, it's driving me nuts.

  • I haven't seen it in Vegas. I think most of their shows are condensed, no? I am sad to say that I haven't seen any musicals in Vegas because lucky for me, I live about 20 minutes from the Great White Way. I've seen LK 4 times, 3 on bway and once in LA. I love it. Always makes me cry. Love the costumes!

  • I've seen Lion King once in San Francisco and once at Gammage in Tempe, where we had CRAPPY seats.

I'm jealous that you get to see all the great NY shows.  I've only been to NYC once, when I went to see Idina Menel in Wicked before she left.

  • Idina was good. At the Wicked theater, it's better to sit in the middle of the orchestra...(I know, you could say that about all the theaters) but for that show, I won lottery once and they give you front row. I could see all the "magic" and that really bummed me out....not going to spoil anything, but I saw how they did that "thing" with Boq in the second act. I had a friend that saw it when Idina fell through the trap door early and broke her ribs.

I have heard from other actors that in Wicked, the cast members play games...like passing a marble and try not to drop it or have audience see it. One time, the marble went into one of the flat tracks and they had to stop the show to get it out.

  • I was there the show before she fell!  I was bummed that her final show had already been sold out and the latest I could get was the Friday night, but then she fell and couldn't finish the Saturday matinee!  The timing was unbelievable.  I hadn't heard the marble thing, that's really amusing.

My crappy seats spoiled the magic for my second run of Lion King.  We were looking almost straight down on the stage, so I could see how they did the Mufasa in the clouds trick.

  • You're supposed to see the Mufasa in the clouds thing. Sure your seats were different than the orchestra, but you see that everywhere. You may see the face slightly before the ground people, but don't worry, you didn't have crappy seats. I've seen it in the balcony (3rd floor) and it was still great. I've seen it 3rd row orchestra and could practically touch the giraffes during "Can't Wait to be King" and I've also sat in partial view....THAT, my friend was the worst seat. I couldn't even see little simba during half the stampede!

  • I couldn't see the people the first time I saw it, though, so it was kind of disappointing to see them the second time around.

I think the worst seats I ever had were in almost the same spot as for Lion King, but for Les Mis.  The partial view (couldn't see upstage left), wasn't as bad as sitting right next to the chick operating the gunshot sound effect.  I was practically deaf by the end of the barricade scene.

  • Sarah, nice bio. I keep telling myself to make a weebly website. I even signed up for one. I'm just too bad at computers to know where to begin!

  • Love the bio!  I finally got off my butt and updated mine, but it still has some gaps.  I should actually take pictures of my invitations before they go out on Thursday...
