Monday Morning Poll

Re: Monday Morning Poll

  • 1) best vacation moment?  The first time I took Ben to Cali with me he told me he wanted to start looking at rings when we got back :) That was good.  There's also a long convoluted story about the summer before when I was with my ex-bf in Cali but was going to dump him for Ben when I got back, but I won't bore you lol

    2) worst vacation moment/story?  Probably the worst was getting all our stuff jacked in the Twin Cities.  When we were dating in high school Ben took me on their family trip to Twins games and Valley Fair.  We had a few hours to kill before the game on Friday so we spent a couple hours at the MOA.  When we returned to the car, all our stuff was gone.

    1) best vacation moment?
Pretty much all of the honeymoon, but that's a given.  Other than that was in St. Kitts with BF and a monkey stole our bag of fruit.  We didn't care about the fruit but didn't want him to have the plastic bag so we chased him.  Caught up to him and BF grabbed the bag back and the monkey bit her (didn't break the skin).  When she called her boyfriend (now H) and told him he freaked and screamed "Didn't you see Outbreak?!?!".  We still laugh about that.

    2) worst vacation moment/story?
Getting chased by the Federalies on the beach in Rocky Point Mexico because my genius friend was setting off firecrackers where he wasn't allowed to.

    Best vacation moment?
Getting engaged right after seeing Wicked on Broadway. H took me to the light booth and proposed before we could get kicked out by the ushers

    Worst vacation moment?
Driving to New Orleans with my grandma, aunt and cousin through a tropical storm on those long stretches of highway over the water. Terrifying.

  • What is your idea of a vacation? My idea of a vacation is being anywhere for an extended amount of time that ISN'T at home. Activities could be leisurely to adventurous. What has been your favorite vacations? I have been a very few so I'd have to say hanging out in Bar Harbor, ME/ Nova Scotia and our stay in Toronto I love me some Toronto Zoo Vacation you most want to take? A trip to Italy/Germany, since that's what I am. BUT I will never get on a plane as you all know so I will settle for my HM cruise to the Bahamas : Would you vacation without H/FI/SO? Sure, I've gone on mini lake adventures with friends and survived alright. Picture of your favorite vacation: and this is where mobile sucks. My apologies if this all looks like a huge mess.
  • Also - the trip where my fam and I hiked the Grand Canyon was a best and worst combined.  It's one of the best experiences of my life, but the pain was so horrendous there were times I joked with my mom the last couple miles up that I was just going to die in the Canyon.  And I was laughing, but I think I was half serious.

  • Oh I just remembered a good one: getting flown out to LA for my friends birthday and getting a shopping spree, all on her boyfriend. that was cool.
  • Best moment: Finding out my mom was pregnant during a 2.5 week road trip (NY to Grand Canyon and back).

Worst moment:  Any time the crappy Winnebago broke down during that road trip.  We had to get picked up by my dad in PA because the POS was down for the count.  We also got pulled over in Texas and the cops thought we were either smuggling drugs or illegal immigrants.  The muffler fell off in Nebraska 4th of July weekend.  We overheated in Colorado and had to turn back and find a different route.  We couldnt' climb the mountains west of Denver.  Phoenix at noon, traffic, and no a/c.

My next big road trip will be with a fully functioning automobile.

    1) best vacation moment? Wow, too many to choose from. Ok, I'll have to say when we were in Napa, and I was sure H was going to propose, but I was sure it was going to be in the evening at the 5 star restaurant we had reservations at. But, he really surprised me but getting us onto a upper terrace at Silverado Vineyards under the guise of taking a better picture. Where he proposed, I still to this day have no idea what he said to me.

    Our engagement picture.

    2) worst vacation moment/story? Hmmm...not many. I'm thinking in London when I was exhausted and we had walked for MILES, and were on a time limit to pick something up that we had bought the day before/get back/ and get a train to Oxford. I was sure we were going the wrong way and after awhile H was mad I asked to see the map again so he threw it in the air. I found where we were supposed to go (yes I was right), and we walked seperate for quite awhile in silence and I got called an idiot when a guy on a bike almost ran me over. Fun times!
Actually worse then that was on our 11 mile hike when we ran out of water and H cussed at me to make me mad (he never cusses at me) so I would move (he was scared we would be stuck out there at night with no supplies). I kissed the ground when we got out of there.

What is your idea of a vacation?
Going somewhere with no set timetable or agenda, other than to relax!

What has been your favorite vacations?
My family used to go to a different Caribbean island each year when I was young, and I loved all of them.

Vacation you most want to take?
    Tuscany with my H.

    Would you vacation without H/FI/SO?
Yes, a getaway with girlfriends would be fun!

    Picture of your favorite vacation:

This is Secret Harbor beach in St. Thomas (I don't have any pics on this computer from our actual trip):

  • Best: After graduating High School my best friend and I packed up in her car and road tripped down to NC to see my brother (he was stationed there).  We had a really great week.

Worst:  When I was 8 (?)  I got lost on the beach.  I walked down to the ocean to get water for my sand castle and I guess wandered to one side.  I couldn't find my family when I looked back so I started walking/searching for them.  I finally ended up a mile away crying hysterically when a lifeguard found me.  My Dad was sooooo mad.  Then my stepmothers father passed away and we had to leave early (sad because of the death, not because of leaving early).

  • Best:  DH proposed on one of our bicycle rides in Moab, Utah.  There's a cool rock formation that's like a small amphitheatre:

Worst: We missed our connecting flight to Belize, and the airline had locked up our luggage in the terminal.    I had very little carry-on wise, and we were stuck in Houston with no clothes, no toiletries, no way to get our luggage, and no idea if we would be able to get on the first flight out the next day.

I know, I think that was the hardest thing I'd ever done in my life.

We were behind a younger couple who were really used to long hikes, they were a ways ahead of us. So when we got out H ran down to get the car and left me on a log by the road. A few cars rode by and a Jeep went past, stopped, backed up and called my name. Weird, I'm in Hawaii, who knows me? It was the other couple they wouldnt leave till we came out. So nice!

Best moment:  hasn't happened yet, since I imagine our delayed HM will be pretty incredible!  Beyond that, the last time I was in Jackson Hole (WY) I hiked to a spot above Jenny Lake called Inspiration Point, and it was a great moment in time - beautiful view, perfect day, great feeling of being alive.

Worst moment:  my parents got food poisoning on our last day in Jamaica.  They ate a fish sandwich, my brothers and I had hamburgers so we were ok.  Mom had to wear Depends on the flight home, and they were in bed for almost a week.  That sucked!

  • Yeah the hikers we met in the Grand Canyon were pretty awesome too.  It's kind of a neat comraderie thing they all have going on.  Ugh it was pain, everywhere.  It was a two day hike - seven miles down, and ten up.  It felt like my muscles were shredding and ripping away from my bones, just everywhere.  And I consider myself to be in pretty good shape, but I have no idea how one trains for a hike other than just hiking, and there aren't many places to hike around here lol.

  • I think my best and worst can be rolled into one... The Nova Scotia trip. Best: I loved taking the Ferry I was young, how beautiful the landscape was, and that it stayed light out until really late at night and also the swimming pool at the hotel was fun. Worst: I swam with my eyes open underwater the whole friggin evening. I'm surprised I'm not blind with the amount of eye pain I was in. I also fondly remember screaming of pain when my mother attempted eye drops... I wonder what the people in neighboring rooms thought was going on..

I dont want to think I'm going to die! You thought you would and you're young and in shape, I am not!

Nope, he's going to have to do certain things without me, like hang gliding, parachuting, Grand Canyon. I have to draw a line.

  • AATB- we always joked that the biggest hill in Fargo was actually the landfill. Not sure where you would hike, either.
  • My great uncle is the one who took us, and he is in his mid 70s.  He makes that hike every year.  Day after we got home I was laid out on the couch afraid to move lest I just fall apart onto the floor, and he was all "So who wants to go play pickleball?"  OH MY GOD, MAN.  SHUT UP.

  • Lol jcb!!

I almost drowned at the beach when I was 8, but my guardian angel saved me.

You know who takes crazy vacations, my in-laws.  They call themselves the Griswolds, and with good reason.  The trip they took me on where all our stuff got stolen was pretty tame.  There was one trip they were pulling a camper behind their truck and the damn thing came unhooked and went rolling down a hill and smashed into a tree.

That's actually kind of awesome, unless I'm behind them :)

My exH and I used to go to GatlInburg every year. One year he was injured so I had to drive and pull the trailer with his MC and my son and his friends bicycles. I was tooling along when a car pulled up honking its horn I was dragging sons bike that had come unhooked. It wouldnt have been so bad but I did it again on the way home.
