Yelling in the hallway? Really?

My office is next to housekeeping's break room/ stock room...lovely. Sporadically throughout the day, they will all be in the area and talk, yell down the hall at each other, laugh ridiculously loud, bang into the walls with the trash cans. I work in a hospital, in one of the research buildings.

What the hell makes them think it is okay to talk loudly and/or yell at work? I know they're having fun, but I don't care about her babydaddy, his babymomma, how she's going to fight and not to underestimate her, and complain about someone not doing their job.

Grumble grumble...just a vent because they're standing outside my office and it's annoying...luckily, there's no windows and my door is locked

Not sure what you mean by that comment....  seems demeaning to me.

I work in research and people throw shiit at eachother.  I'd take talking obnoxiously loud any day.  Put in some headphones and have a nice day.

ETA:  After rereading a take back first comment.

If I worked in a lab where people threw things, I'd quit.  I don't put up with that shiit.

<div>Yeah luckily it isn't my "lab" in particular but a neighboring one on the same floor (open concept sort of deal).  Their rageful outbursts stem from lack of communication due to, well, lack of English or any common language.  </div>

That's so crazy to me.  Our "sister" lab in a different building often had yelling matches and temper-tantrums.  I find it all amazing.  The first time anyone yelled at me like that, I'd be gone.  Thank God my PI is a normal, soft spoken, awesomely wonderful man who also doesn't put up or contribute to that stuff!
  • Yeah I don't understand it either.  There is a lot of tension there for sure.  The PI I am with now I don't think would put up with it if that started happening here.  Our lab gets along great and we often go out together for drinks.  This was similar to the lab I worked in for my undergrad.  Never did I think people behaved this was as adults... let alone surrounded by a bunch of nasty chemicals and equipment!
  • If they're disrupting your work, perhaps you could, oh, I don't know...poke your head out of your office and nicely ask them if they could keep it down a bit.

  • Shut your office door and turn on some music. Lighten up. Its Friday.
By the way, you should get back to work.

<div>FI's side of the family is pretty quiet.  It should be interesting to see how it plays out at the reception.  I have a feeling everyone will have to scream to hear over us the Italians :)</div>
  • Ha Ha! Some of the comments are kinda funny. :)

My office door is always closed. Most of them are very nice people, and say hi and good morning when I come in. There's a few awkward ones. They'll be talking and laughing, and then 3 minutes later, it's silent. And then 1 hour later they're back. Grumble grumble.

Friday was kind of a cluster f**k day. Give me a break. I was venting.

About throwing stuff in a lab, I'm surprised they get away with it.

And I got my work done on Friday, that's why I was on here. Silly goose :)
