Simple Programs

Hi guys! I'm trying to get my programs printed this week before my art director/friend moves to Colorado! I want to do a hanging program with a navy backer hung on the side/back of each chair. That pretty much narrows us down to a single sided flat card. After having "The celebration and blessing of the marriage of katharine middle last and michael middle last", the date, location and the bridal party (including parents) we don't have much room left.

1) how important is it to have the actual items of the ceremony listed out?

2) if I need them, what is the simplest way to list them? can I just say:

Prelude

Processional

Declaration of Consent

Exchange of Wedding Vows & Rings

Pronouncement of Marriage

Words of Celebration

Recessional

?

We are having a VERY simple Episcopal ceremony if that helps--no hymns, and probably only 1 reading and a gospel reading. I'm nervous that what I just posted isn't correct, and it makes me nervous!

I could also just do the front while my friend is here and then I can print it more simply if needed and paste it on the back with less of a design so I can make it in Word.

Let me know if this is totally against etiquette or how you ladies are solving for it!

There is no real etiquette on this. Programs are really not even required, unless you are having a super complicated ceremony.

I think what you have listed is fine. Just go over the order with your officiant to make sure all is in order, and you can add to the back if need be. It is only important to list out certain parts/things if a) it's very complicated ceremony and/or most of your guests will not be familiar with the customs, and/or b) there are specific words/phrases that the guests need to recite and they need to know.

Example: my programs (which are tri fold so I have a lot of area) have a lot listed on the back, because the pastor will say, "Friends and family of Erica and Scott, will you help them in their marriage, support them...blah blah blah..." and then the congregation says, "We will." So they need to be able to follow along with the pastor and know when they need to say their part and what to say. There are a couple of sections like this. We also listed the Lord's Prayer.

I had programs printed off only because I had a groupon for Vistaprint to use up (I actually ordered them last night), but we're having a really simple, short non-denominational ceremony so programs are definitely not needed. We just listed the members of the wedding party, our parents, and our officiant on the front side, along with our names, wedding date and location at the top.

We couldn't decide what to do with the backside, we were going to write a thank you letter, but it seemed really boring and wordy, so we actually printed the lyrics to the Adam Sandler song I wanna grow old with you.

I think what you're doing sounds great kmac. I think it will be really pretty, and you shoud make them how you want to.
