FI and I just decided that we're swapping out Williams Sonoma for the Home Depot. Practicality over class, right?

Thing is, the Williams Sonoma was really just for me, and Home Depot has some tools and gear we really would both LOVE. I kind of can't wait, to be honest. I love it in there.
We're also registering at Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond. Anyone else going the Depot route?
Re: Registering at Home Depot? Oh, yes. Yes we are.
Not Home Depo, but we did register at Menards. They had everything from garden lights to toaster ovens. Someone even got us a ladder (our old one was a death trap). We're big DIYers, so this was one of our favorite registries.
We bought a new condo so all we had to do was paint it, which was a blessing and a curse because there was no work to do but I wish I could have picked out fixtures and such that goes with our taste.
Have fun with it, I love Home Depot!!
Love Home Depot, nothing "unclassy" about it...I think more people probably don't register there simply because they don't have an online registry which makes it harder for you. I think it's a great idea and hope you get some great things!

[QUOTE]Can I ask where you found a Home Depot to register at? I had looked into it and found evidence online that they had dropped their registry program a couple of years ago. I would LOVE to register there. Please share how you found it.

<div>I'm glad you brought this up! Before I posted I had googled "wedding registry at Home Depot" and got this page and just assumed it was like other stores:</div><div><a href="http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/GiftRegistrySearchView?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053">http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/GiftRegistrySearchView?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053</a></div><div>
</div><div>But now I just went back and saw this:</div><div><span style="color:#333333;font-family:Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, 'MS Sans-Serif', sans-serif;line-height:normal;font-size:12px;" class="Apple-style-span">"We’re sorry, the Online Gift Registry is not connected to our stores in any way. You can only access Online Gift Registries that were created on homedepot.com here."</span></div><div><span style="color:#333333;font-family:Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, 'MS Sans-Serif', sans-serif;line-height:normal;font-size:12px;" class="Apple-style-span">
</span></div><div><span style="color:#333333;font-family:Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, 'MS Sans-Serif', sans-serif;line-height:normal;font-size:12px;" class="Apple-style-span">So it seems like you can only have an online registry? I'm not sure. Might be giving them a call and will update this thread with what they say.</span></div>
I did. It was a bit of a problem. Lots of people called us because they could not figure out how to work the registry. They went online, found the registry but couldn’t find us. Well you have to pick, online or in store—they do not connect. I knew we had to pick before hand and even wrote HomeDepot (instore only) on my info card. People still didn’t get it.
A family friend said she went online, couldn’t find it so she went to a store. She was told the store told her she needed to know the exact location that we registered at to get the registry. She didn’t know so she called us. I told her, she went back, got the registry and said it was really hard to read so she gave up and went home.
Now, that is the worst story I heard (although I got at least 5 calls about minor issues). However, I wanted to test the things out so I called the Elk River store and asked for (insert our last names) registry. They pulled it up really quickly. So I don’t know why some people have issues and others don’t. One thing I do know is that it is hard to find things off the registry form and as the registering party you need to hard write the number codes to each item you want and then give it to someone to enter into the database. Lots of room for error. Also, I have heard that a lot of times purchased gifts don’t get taken off your registry because it isn’t as easy/common of a process for the cashiers as it is for other stores like Target.
Over all it was hubby’s favorite place. I was so worried that nobody was buying stuff that I asked all his friends to go there—tacky right. J
We decided we'll do Menards. There are plenty in MN and Chicago (where we live), but there aren't any in Colorado where FI's family and a lot of our friends are from. Oh well! There will be plenty more things to choose from, hehe.
But seriously, Home Depot and Lowes are losing out on a lot of potential business. Get your act together, guys!
