    I'm a proud BCP taker.

I have NO problem with NFP, but it is simply not for me.

Guess I'm a baby killing, cancer bomb waiting to explode.

    I'll take my chances ;)

well, like any med, BCP is different for everyone.

all i know is i had normal cycles prior to the pill.  when on the pill, i had periods about 4 days long.  my doc told me when i went off, id most likely have heavier periods and might lose weight.  my periods every cycle, with the exception of the first one off, since stopping have been one day long and i gained 20 pounds.  i appear to be ovulating, my my luteal phase is very short - which leads me to think i could get pregnant, but the egg will never be able to implant.

now, this issue might not be pill related, and could very well have been on going all the years i was on the pill - but that's what ill never know, and thats the example of what folks are saying - that it covers up potential issues.

Thanks for answering my question Riss. =)

I definitely see what you mean about the pill covering up other issues over time, if a woman was sexually active.  If a woman wasn't sexually active until she got married though, she might not start NFP until then and only then realize that she was not ovulating anyway.  It's such a case-by-case basis.

My mother told me that she had extremely irregular periods prior to getting on the pill but once she got off, she was so regular that she got her period every fourth Thursday!  She had to have a laparoscopy because of a UTI at 28 and was told she had the healthiest internal organs for somebody in her late 20s he had ever seen.  My parents had fertility issues prior to conceiving me, but they were 100% with my father.

I definitely plan on charting when I'm getting closer to the time I have children.  And when the time comes, I hope I have the same luck that my mother had.

So thankful for this discussion. My FI and I have decided to try NFP leading up to our wedding in May as we have chosen to abstain until from now until then. About two weeks in and for some reason it's been really easy for me even though I've been on the pill for 6 years. We're using the Billings Method. I never even consider this before our Marriage Prep class, but some of the examples (similar to above) really hit home with my FI and after talking about it, we decided to give it a try. We'll see what we decide when it gets closer to the wedding. We know we don't want children the first year or two of marriage and I want to make sure I'm comfortable with charting and such before the wedding.
