BM Dress Doesn't Fit

I picked up my bridesmaids' dresses and brought them to my bridal shower so they could just pick them up from there instead of driving to David's Bridal way far away from where they all live. So, after the shower was over, one of my BM's said she wanted to try on the dress there (at my mom's house), I had nothing to do with her trying it on right then and there.

So the dress doesn't fit. It is wayyy too tight around the stomach area and won't zip up about half way. I remember the same dress size she tried on at the store being snug and not zipping completely, but nothing like this.

After realizing the dress wouldn't zip, BM said she would go to David's Bridal and "get it fixed".... but she is kind  of a procrastinator and the wedding is like 32 days away... We CANNOT rush order the dress (it is a 2 month order).

Question is, do I follow up with her and see if she got it figured out (and if so, how do I word it) or do I just leave it alone and trust her to deal with it in time?

TIA

  • I hate David's Bridal with a passion.  That sucks - I'm kind of a worrier so I'd send the email but follow up VERY nicely.

<div>6 or 7 days before my wedding, one of my bridesmaids tried on her dress and found out she'd gained weight & it no longer fit.  David's Bridal wouldn't fix it; their alterations people can be crappy.</div><div>
</div><div>She ended up buying one of their wraps for $20, same fabric, same color, and bringing it to a private seamstress who sewed it into the seams of the dress to make it fit her.  Suggest that your BM do that.</div>
  • Oh, and it's likely the one she ordered didn't fit because the one in the store was somewhat stretched from people trying it on & the one she got is new & not stretched.  They should have told her that at DB when she ordered.  Sorry for the stress.
  • DOn't micromanage. Just trust her to get it fixed. If she doesn't than she will have removed herself from the wedding.

on another note: I setup my account at DB's this weekend. The sales lady told me that the in-store sizes are slightly bigger/less snug because they have been tried on repeatedly and stretched.
    Anniversary
  • She said she'd get it fixed. So she'll either show up to the wedding in a properly fitting dress, or show up in a too-tight dress, or if the dress can't even get on her body then she can wear what she wants and attend as a guest. (Or just let her wear something close to that color and she can stand as a BM anyway ... it doesn't seem like this was her fault.)

I would only follow up with her if you have something helpful, like, "Hey, I know this amazing seamstress on 33rd Street who charges really low prices. Her number is 555-1234 if you still need a seamstress."

  • 1. why did she get the dress that size to begin with if it couldn't zip all the way in the first place. 2. Why does she need a whole new dress, they should just be able to alter it. and 3. she did say she'd get it done, but a friendly, hey did you go to DB yet to get the dress i'd love to go with you when you go, might not be a bad idea.
