What kind of bustle do I need?

Hi ladies!
You were so fantastic with your help last time, that I'm sure you can help me again!
I am trying to figure out how to bustle my dress.  It's David's Bridal T3299

The woman there suggested two buttons sewn into the applique, and two loops lower, so I can just pick it up and pop it onto the two "hidden" buttons.
It just seems like that might not be enough, since the dress is kinda heavy.  Is two buttons really going to do it?  What else could I do with this dress?

  • Your dress is very pretty!  I think you could do a french bustle with that dress.  It will show off the edge of lace, which is a beautiful detail of the dress.  And the french bustle ties together underneath your dress so will hold all night.

I'd be worried about the buttons too.  At least with the hook and eyes, for a traditional American bustle, you can clamp the hooks shut with pliers or something.  I feel the buttons may keep coming undone as you sit and stand up all night.

There is a website that another poster has posted before that shows all of the bustles available.  I can't seem to find the website now, but maybe that poster will see your post and link to that other website!
  • I had a pretty heavy train and I had exactly what you described...I didn't have one issue all night long.  As long as the seamstress sews on the buttons and loops correctly it will hold.

But liek a PP said, a french bustle will look very pretty as well.

  • Your gown is stunning! If the tailor has experience, I would trust their judgment on what will hold best. Personally I am partial to American bustles because I think French bustles don't always look that good, and it would still show the lace at the bottom of your dress.
