  • I would pick a longer kids books that is funny or has an interesting theme.  Maybe check caldecott winning books.  Will it be during an English class or something other class?

  • Or maybe find a book that was popular when those kids were like 4 or 5 to read.  They might get a kick out of remembering the book.

  • I worked in a library for a few years, and then worked at the library of an elementary/ middle school. What I remember about 8th graders is that they want to not be treated like they're children...even though they still are. I would go with something funny, witty, and more on the high school level. Think along the lines of a funny scene from a Shakespeare play, with mega bonus points if you can act it out. For instance, the Dogberry scenes in Much Ado About Nothing, or the Wall speech in Midsummer Night's Dream. They're classic and age appropriate.

  • I'm a librarian and I have done some home school classes and storytimes for older kids and adults, I have read two stories from the book called half minute horrors by Susan Rich. The first story in there that is awesome is called Hank, it is about a dog and it is totally creepy, you will get any kid or adult, on your side with that story, so if possible start with that. Then there is another story about a spider that is awesome that you can end with. Then in the middle you could read a longer short story or the first chapter of a book that they might like to read.
