Cheap Custom Gown Websites - Any Good?

I'm in search of my wedding dress and may have found the perfect one! only negative is that it is $4K+ and i was looking to spend less than $2K.

There are all these websites for "custom made" gowns that are exactly like the one i want...and they only charge $250-$500 for the gown.

are any of these sites any good?

i'm doubtful, but would like to know either way.

thanks!

Re: Cheap Custom Gown Websites - Any Good?

  • No. The best advice I can give you is to stay far far away from these sites. The gowns are knock-offs that are made in Chia and IF the dress even shows up it's of poor quality and you'd probably just end up in tears.

I've been looking a lot on www.dressilyme.com which has the type of cheae, custom dresses you're talking about. The important thing is to read the reviews both on, and off of the websites. I looked up reviews for Dressily Me and the only bad thing I found was that someone thought their fabric had an off smell. I bought a dress (not wedding) where the fabric smelled strange but thats nothing the dry cleaners can't take away. If you wanna save the money, go ahead an order one. The worst thing to happen is you lost out on $250, which isn't great but in the wedding world it's just pennies. I'd say its worth the shot! I'm actually selling a brand new dress from Priscilla of Boston because I think i bought it way too quick (my wedding isn't until November 2013) and I could really use the money towards my summer college class. If you're interested it's on ebay if you search Priscilla of Boston. Its called "Mischa". Gorgeous!
**I also live close to Philadelphia so if you are interested you wouldn't have to get it from ebay. My email is tfegoru@gmail.com if you're interested :)
  • My advice is to not order a "designer gown" for $250-500. It's kinda a too could to be true thing. Or.. you get what you pay for.

If you're looking for a dress on a budget, maybe try sites like..

    oncewed.com
    recycledbride.com
or try the Wedding Classifieds board.

I haven't tried those website or know anyone who has- so maybe you can search the board for recommendations/experiences. They just seem more legit than ordering a dress for $250.
