I'm fresh out of ideas.  I think if I have another one, my wedding will explode.

What wedding-related project are you tackling this September?
Even with only two months left until the wedding, we're not doing a lot this month.  I really did work my tail off for the last two years to make sure that I wouldn't have much to deal with in September and October.  Our engagement photos are FINALLY going to be shot on September 11th.  I have one more ring bearer pillow to make (we have two ring bearers), three coursages, my maid of honour's hair piece, and the bridesmaid's luncheon to plan.  I have my second (and final) bridal shower to attend in four days.  I have to take my vintage veil and gloves to a restorer to have them gently get the yellowing out.  Matt is tracking down his groomsmen to get them to get measured (lazy bums).  There are a bunch of small things left to do, but nothing major.  All the important stuff is taken care of.

I am still completely in love with my engagement ring.  It was my late mummu's (Finnish grandmother's) and it's from the late 1920s I believe.  I'd been very clear to Matti from the beginning that I wanted to wear her ring as an engagement ring, so when it was time for him to propose, he had to request it from my parents (asking for their blessing at the same time).  We didn't always have the ring, however.  My mummu died when I was 3 and my dad hadn't seen her ring since he was a teen.  Her husband (my vari) was a carpenter, and had a number of rough tool trunks he'd made to carry his carpentry tools.  For my first year of university, I decided to clean out one of these trunks, and found this broken ring wedged into the bottom of the trunk, amongst the rusty nails, rasps, files and old saws.  I showed it to my dad, and he said, "Oh!  That's my mum's engagement ring".  We took it to a jeweler and had the band repaired (unfortunately, we had to lose some of the ornate filigree detail in the process), but we kept the ring safe in a jewelry box througout my university years.  I told my parents that one day I'd like to wear it as an engagement ring.  My dad said, "You found it.  It's yours. ".  Very non-chalant and dad-like.  So, Matti had to ask my parents for the ring.  They gave their blessing, gave him the ring, he had it cleaned, and now I have a little piece of my mummu everywhere I go.  I'll continue handing it down to the females in my family.  It's somewhere between art deco and art nouveau in style.  It has very geometric elements, but also sweet ferns and flowers in (whats remaining of) the filigree.  It HAD an old mine-cut diamond, but my dad said that it fell out and was lost in the 1950s, and his mum had it replaced then with a brilliant cut.

Here's an unfortunately blurry photo of mine:

and here's a photo of one I found online that is almost identical:

Still, to this day, whenever I look at it, I can't believe that the most treasured thing that I own was found in a dirty old tool trunk.

I think I'm with Nukke... I'm pretty burnt out on planning right now so I'm not open to new ideas or inspiration! I'm just ready for the big day.

What wedding-related project are you tackling this September?

The invites are currently being hand painted but once they are finished they will be sent out. I need to book my first fitting. Oh, and I decided to lose a couple of pounds so that should keep me occupied.

Tell us about/let us see your engagement ring!  Is it retro/vintage?

It isn't vintage. No family heirlooms for us. It is a classic design though and if I remember correctly the princess cut was invented in 1961. It's a half carat princess cut solitaire and Matt picked it out himself. I wear a size four and I have really tiny hands so it's a perfect size.

  • What's your latest retro/vintage idea/inspiration?  My mom found some old old cameras I had been saving and brought them down from Chicago this weekend to our new house so I can possibly use them in my decor for the wedding.  Other than that not too much, we just bought a house and have been working on that, and probably will be for some time!

What wedding-related project are you tackling this September? Bridesmaids dresses!

Tell us about/let us see your engagement ring!  Is it retro/vintage?  I think it has a retro feel to it.  I wanted an antique ring, but it just didn't happen.  So I chose something that I thought was different.
  • What's your latest retro/vintage idea/inspiration?
It's not retro or vintage per se, but I found the cake design I am in love with, and it's basically a plain white cake with sugar pearls cascading all over! So elegant.

What wedding-related project are you tackling this September?
NOTHING. Because we're in our final weeks leading up to our move! I can't believe it's almost here. In about three and a half weeks we've got to pack up all our crap and drive 2000 miles back home! BUT we have a list of venues to check out when we finally get settled.

Tell us about/let us see your engagement ring!  Is it retro/vintage?
It is! It started out as my grandmother's engagement ring from the 1940s. In the 70s it was reset into a very unusual and gorgeous setting. FI knew from the beginning that I really wanted this ring to be my engagement ring. At first he wanted to get his own ring, but then he realized how important it was to me and then asked my parents for the ring and their blessing before he popped the question.
    Sorry for poopy picture.

Cameos! I haven't the foggiest why I didn't think of these before! I was planning on using a family one on my bouquet, but now I plan to make them the theme of the cake.

What wedding-related project are you tackling this September?
Trying to get a hold of the caterer so that I can do a tasting. What a riggamarole!

Tell us about/let us see your engagement ring!  Is it retro/vintage?
The ring is new, but colored stones are very old school.

  • What's your latest retro/vintage idea/inspiration?
I'm currently back in School after a short 2 week break (wah!)...but I'm in an InDesign class right now and my teacher has given me permission to base all of my projects on my wedding. So I've been playing around with ideas for my inserts for my invitations.

What wedding-related project are you tackling this September?
Invite design, STD design (I'm fixing it a bit) and I have to STILL finish getting all of my addresses I need, ordering STD's, BM dresses measurements...my BM's are being SLACKER!, place card musings, flowers flowers freakin flowers...I'm so stuck on flowers.

Tell us about/let us see your engagement ring!  Is it retro/vintage?
Ha! No it's certainly not retro vintage at all. It's a pink heart shaped sapphire in a white gold heart shaped setting surrounded by 15 diamonds. I love it in all of it's gaudiness....lol.
