I went to Barcelona... It was incredible. And the people were really nice (at least they seemed that way when they juxtaposed with Parisians) and were eager to speak English, even though I'm rather good with conversational Spanish. A lot of them spoke Catalan too, which is interesting to hear. It sounds like Spanish mixed with French with an Italian accent.
One time we found ourselves in this little bar with chickens in cages all over the place.. the man working there was very nice and he gave us free food so he could practice his English with us, but it was so... different... in there, that we really just wanted to peace out the whole time.
I saw a Narwhal shirt the other day and it made me think of you and how you haven't posted in a while.
My favorite place we've gone so far is Kona, HI. I liked it because it wasn't as touristy as Oahu or even Maui, it felt very homy, but just in a ridiculously beautiful location. I also really enjoyed Puerto Rico, there was so much to do there.
I'm totes jealous of everyone's European adventures though, I haven't been yet. We are planning to do a big family trip in the summer of 2013 to go visit FI's family in France (his grandmother is French & all her family still lives there). I want to check out where FI lived in Germany too, but I don't know if we'll have time on that trip.
That's cool! Yeah we're definitely going to Barcelona. And probably Madrid, Seville, Granada. FI can't stay in one place for more than a few nights before he gets antsy so we'll be moving around a lot.
Mookow - I went to Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville. They all have very different feels. Madrid feels somewhat cold compared to the other cities ebcause it is so business oriented. There is definitely a lot to do there though. Barcelona was amazing but it took me awhile to get comfortable there because the pickpocketing was everywhere (and by everywhere I don't mean you were warned about it and never saw it, we saw it on a daily basis) and I was paranoid. I adored Valencia they have an amazing aquarium there. I also really liked Seville too. Feel free to ask me anything though.

Really? I didn't encounter this at all. I felt much more comfortable in Barcelona than I did in Paris.. although I do wear my wallet around my neck in my shirt like a big nerd when I travel. If anyone tried to go for it I would know right away. ;)
If we're not looking at roughing it, however, you can't beat Berlin for a city experience and the whole of Vermont if you want something a little more laid back.

But I definitely recommend Barcelona.
