Wedding Woes

Mom vs. Location?

I recently got engaged and we've just started our planning.

Ever since I was a little girl I pictured myself getting married at the beach. But my mother has always pictured me getting married in the same church she grew up in.

On the one hand I want to make my mother happy, but on the other I know that I will regret not having the wedding I always dreamed of.

Do I tell my mother that I don't want to get married in a church and make her upset? Or just put my desires aside and make the change?

Any thoughts? Anyone else face this issue?

Who's paying? If she is, you'll probably have to accept her wishes. If you pay for it yourself, you get to get married wherever you want to.

Are you even religious? I was raised Catholic and couldn't have found a Catholic church that would marry me if I wanted to, since I don't believe, don't go to confession, don't have a "home" church, and, oh yeah, was already living with my fiance.  Just saying - there may be a few other factors at play besides "I want/she wants."

  • Get married where you want.  Picturing other people's life events and trying to strong-arm them to conform to your imaginings is creepy and douchey anyway.
