B&M Monday

I B&M that I got my first speeding ticket ever in life this weekend. I totally deserved it, and after all these years I probably had one coming but REALLY. The last thing I have time for right now is dealing with defensive driving or whatever I decide to do.
BAH.

Re: B&M Monday

  • Carrie, Defensive Driving is such a breeze, and you have plenty of time that you can wait and do it after your wedding. I use the one online that's $25 - so easy, and you can stop and start it as you have time. NBD.

I B&M that H said something really hurtful to me yesterday and I can't get it out of my mind. I think he knew it wasn't nice, but I don't think he understood how much it would hurt me.

    Also, its Monday.

I bm that I did terribly on my first full practice multistate bar exam. I am terrified of having to study for this exam again!

  • nrt - Every CPA exam that I took (there are 4 sections) I walked out feeling like I failed and I called my mom crying. And I passed all 4 the first time. I'm not bragging, I'm just saying, I think it's normal to feel ambushed and overwhelmed.

Amy - OK good that's a relief. I guess maybe I just have to RESPOND by July 23? Because when he said that I was like F that's the day we get back from our HM.

Carrie - Yes, I believe that's correct. I think you just have to go to court and turn in your ticket and let them know what you are going to do: pay it or take DD. I believe you have 3 months from the date of your ticket to get your DD certificate postmarked to them. I haven't gotten a ticket in 4 years *knock on wood* but that's what I'm remembering. I used www.defensivedriving.com.

  • Two side B&M's:
My face is still peeling like crazy. If I wasn't taking so many vacation days this year I would have not come in today. At least I don't have any meetings until after the honeymoon.
RSVP deadling came and went and we had EXACTLY 50% respond. 64/128. And now we start the phone calls.....
  • I have to go to a training thing for like 2 hours today. I am not excited to have to sit in a room and pretend I like these people.

  • H proposed to me two years ago yesterday, so we celebrate last night. And that included a glass more of wine than I should have probably had for a Sunday night. And the airport security lines this morning STUNK! I despise Monday morning travel. Carrie, sorry to hear about the ticket! And Amy, I'm really sorry your H said something hurtful to you. Boys can sk sometimes!
  • My b&m of the day is that all of my co-workers are hung over after our Rangers game outing last night. Best story of the night was when we had a girl not realize there was a bus full of people right next to her as she just took a squat to pee 10 feet from us. Afterwards she realized we were there lol.

Amy- Sorry about H :( I hope things ended up getting worked out in the end.

Cwagg- I'm at about 25% of my people RSVP. I keep having people say, oh yeah I still need to rsvp. I sitll have 2 weeks though. Have fun I guess? lol

    How fun!
  • Carrie, I also used defensivedriving.com and it was super easy. I don't think I even went to the courthouse to say that's what I was doing. I called them and they told me what box to check on the ticket. I think you also have to mail in a fee, but it's way cheaper than just paying off the ticket.

Also, defensivedriving.com sends you "Happy Birthday" messages and reminders that you're getting close to your three-year mark in case you want to take it again to get the insurance discount.

This is not my proudest moment... but I flew to Vegas a few years ago with a bottle of vodka in my suitcase and uhhhh let's just say I had to shake glass out of my outfits every night and I smelled like a frat house the entire week.
  • Cwagg - I had a ticket last year (running a stop sign, not speeding). I had to pay part of the ticket when I went to the courthouse, but was able to avoid the rest by taking the defensive driving. It was my first ticket so I don't know if I should have been able to get out of the entire thing by DD, or what.

Not really B&M, but FI is going to be gone all this week on his first-ever business trip. Going to have to keep myself occupied at the house so I don't get paranoid.

  • My B&M: 3 months away from our wedding and FMIL is STILL attempting to add people to the guest list. Her response to FI's concerns, "oh don't worry about it, I'm not worried about it". Poor FI just wanted to say, yea you don't have to worry when you aren't paying. needless to say the additional people aren't being added. I'm just so glad FI and I are on the same page with this.

Amanda - maybe if you package it in a box with paper or something around it within your luggage you won't have the same issue

I would definitely use lots of padding and put the bottle in an air tight bag, so that at least if it DOES break, it won't get on everything. Once it's in the bag, wrap it in a towel, or something equally soft and fluffy, and make sure it's in the middle of your suitcase, surrounded by clothes on all sides, keeping anything harder like shoes and hair dryers and such away from it. It should hopefully be ok like that.

FFIL kept doing this to us. And now that the invites have gone out, he's trying to add people to our RD. It's infuriating me, because we are having the smallest possible RD - only wedding party and dates, and IMMEDIATE family. Granted this comes to 47 people because FI has 5 sisters and 4 brothers, some of whom have their own children.
And FFIL wants to invite his OOT friends. Um, no. You can go see them after dinner, and hang out with them during the day Saturday.
  • My B&M for the day: My FMIL has been stalling on giving me her list of guests for about 3 months now...pretty much since we booked the place. His family is a GINORMOUS Hispanic family, and although my family is fairly large as well, we are not on good terms with most of them (family drama between parents and uncles/aunts from many years ago). SO of the 225 guests, about 160 are his family and parents friends....and this is after many nights of back and forth about how IMPOSSIBLE it is for them to condense the list.

I could go on for DAYS about this...I pretty much put my foot down on a large hall because I didn't want that type of venue, and especially because my side of the family would be too small...I didnt want our wedding to be a large party for his family, which may sound selfish, but I also didnt want my parents to be overwhelmed you know? Anyways...so yea...still waiting on the list...any day now...

This is what I thought a RD was supposed to be. A small dinner with the people that play a role in your wedding, not a family/friend reunion! Sorry you have to deal with that!

Yeah we went FI's best man's wedding last year, and their RD was basically everyone invited to the wedding since her entire family was from NC, and the wedding was in AR.

I guess that's what he was expecting, but there is NO way we could have afforded that. PLUS FFIL has not been involved in the planning at all, which is totally fine, except the last thing I want to plan in addition to a wedding is another dinner event the day before.

I'm glad my parents are the ones in charge of this and paying for it. My dad is very budget conscious, so while it would be nice to have our family from OOT at the RD, we are only having wedding party, my parents and his parents. No sisters/brothers/cousins etc. I'm not close with my siblings anyways. So our RD will have 23 people, but that's only because my FI decided he HAD to have 8 guys in his WP compared to my 3 :) So I don't envy you there.

On another note: What happened to all the girls who were planning their summer weddings? I feel like a lot of people are MIA

I managed to bring home 8 bottles of hard apple cider from a visit to CT a few years ago; I wrapped every bottle with an item of clothing and tried to nest them in the middle of the suitcase with other stuff closer to the sides of the bag if that makes sense...I didn't have any break! Not sure if it was luck or if the wrapping with clothes thing worked but it can be done!

We did, but we used wine shippers and checked them individually as baggage. If it's a single bottle, you can put in your bag, just wrap really good! They also sell wine sleeves which are for single bottles and it's basically a sealed bubble wrap pack you can use to pack. Try a local wine store...
