Clarification of when to send invitations, please

I know invitations typically are mailed out 6-8 weeks before the wedding- but I am still unsure when I am supposted to send them. Is there different time frame for destination weddings?

By definition, I guess we are having a destination wedding- we are getting married in the Outer Banks, but live in VA and friends and family will have to travel for it, as they are scattered throughout the East Coast.

I guess when I think destination wedding I think Carribbean or Vegas!

Thanks!

It's the same timeframe. Many couples send out STDs for destination weddings so that guests can start planning in advance.  As it's a little late for you to order and mail STDs, you could consider either electronic STDs or even just contacting the most important people on your guestlist to make sure they know when and where your wedding will be.

We've send out the STDs :) I just wasn't sure if there we needed to send out the invitations a little earlier than the standard 6-8 weeks.

    Thank you!!

  • We sent ours out at 10 weeks, but that is pretty standard in my circle/area. Anymore than 12, even for a destination wedding, is way too early.

If your wedding is scheduled after the Labor Day weekend holiday, you should be OK.  I live in NC, and was looking recently to book something for this summer - almost nothing is available until after LD!

If you have a small guest list, and you can, it would not be a bad idea to send some email STDs so your guests have some time to find a place to stay as well as request time off work if necessary.
