Cleanse - Day 1

So I may have to cheat already on the first meal of the first day..  I am about to walk out the door, and just made my "berry smoothie" .. well - it's disgusting.  Probably because you only get to add 1 tiny tsp of peanut butter, and the rest is just berries and skim milk.  It doesn't help that the only berries I had are tart blackberrys instead of something sweeter.

Not sure what I am going to do because I don't have time to run to the store and get back, I have appts in 45 minutes and will be tied up for about 4 hours.  I don't want to skip breakfast all together, but I also don't want to cheat.  I'm trying to think of something that may be diet-appropriate, but the diet seems to be almost no-carb, so a granola bar or oatmeal wouldn't work I don't think.

Great start, right? :)   Note to anyone else trying it - maybe use strawberries?

Awe that stinks! I would have used strawberries because I don't really like other berries.  Hope you got something else to eat!

Can you eat egg whites?  That's what my trainer tells me I can eat unlimited amounts of.

Can you add a bit of vanilla yogurt or honey?  Frozen berries are really good, you can get a huge bag at Costco.

Nope, no egg whites, no yogurt, no honey.. It's nuts.   Theres a very small list of foods we can eat and that's it.   I ended up eating everything separate this morning instead of mixing it into another shake - that was better.. Took a gulp of milk, a spoonfull of PB and ate a handful of berries.  Def not enough for a filling breakfast though - so I drank a ton of water the rest of the morning to stay full.

Now I am onto my "snack" of cucumbers in vinegar.  But I actually like vinegar, so this isn't bad.  Lunch will be coming up soon - salad, oil and vinegar, and 4 oz of lean meat.  I can't wait to have some sort of meat/fish.

I always make smoothies with vanilla soymilk and banana. sometimes with matcha too. have also tried mixed frozen berries but the seeds don't mix so it sucks. strawberries or blueberries are the best berries to use ( i like them seperated tho not both berries in same smoothie)

also, you can get this made for you at starbucks if you are in a rush and cant make it. just ask for no protein powder in it.

this diet sounds pretty good,  who/where is it from?

It's the womens day "look better naked" 2 day cleanse.  And it's not good, it's horrible.  We are officially modifying it because it's not enough calories in one day for a human to survive..  I put added up all todays calories and I would only be consuming 700, that's way unhealthy and we both were starting to feel insanely weak, so we added some handfuls of mixed nuts and other veggies into the plan... So it's not technically a 2 day cleanse now, more of a 2 days of eating super super healthy, no sugar, no processed foods, etc now.

DH is doing this with you? More power to him! My FI would never do something like this. I hope you last though! :) Good luck!

Hmm if you are eating anything at all is that really a cleanse?  I always thought cleanses were mainly juice/water type drinks, made to flush your body out so that you can start over again clean.  what you described def sounded like a rapid weight loss diet, or something, since it was healthy food but very low calories.

although, it is proven that eating less than 1,500 calories a day makes you live longer. your body gets used to it so it doesn't feel weak after a bit, and your body works better and you are more healthy so in turn you live longer.  it was on oprah haha. although, it should probably be a gradual change, not immediately just start eating less. oh yeah and if its healthy foods like fruits and veggies and good proteins, in small meals throughout the day, then you shouldn't feel weak or hungry but will be eating less calories since its healthier =)

anyway, that is good you are eating healthy, keep it up. =)

Aw, I'm sorry this sucks so bad for you.  I'm going to try it this week, but I'll be at work so it may be easier to control urges.  The only addition I foresee is having a mini protein shake before hitting the gym.  If I dont have food in me, I run out of gas really quick and waste a gym session.

Vegan - Its becoming more common to do food-included cleanses.  Its targeted to have a lot of veggies and fiber usually.  The foods should pass through the body easily because there is nothing processed.  Sometimes these diets are accompanied by fiber drinks to flush the system.  GNC has a few weeklong cleanses/detoxes that follow this type of plan.  The meal plan is much more generous than what oodsie is trying (includes beans, grains, etc).

    Hi ladies,

I'm on my Day 1 of the cleanse.  Its going okay.  But to be fair, I woke up at about 11am, haha.  I went to the gym then came home and had the breakfast shake.  I made it with FF soy milk and strawberries.  It was actually pretty good, but like PP said, the seeds got kind of annoying by the end.  I probably would have done bananas had I thought about that ahead of time. But it was sweet and easy to drink.   I had my cucumber snack plain (no vinegar) with the green tea.  This is where I'm sort of cheating. I'm not brewing my own green tea, I got a jug of unsweetened Harmony Tea green tea, so its not fresh-brewed, but there are no added ingredients.  I didn't want hot tea when its so humid out.  Unsweetened green tea is naaaassttyy, had to force it down.

For lunch I ate raw greens (mix of red leaf lettuce, spinach and a little basil).  I mixed my 2 tsp of olive oil with 1 tsp of vinegar and some herbs as recommended and made a vinagrette, it was good!  I had 4oz of grilled 99% fat free chicken with a little no-salt seasoning.  Also good.  Yes, I'm hungry, lol.  I'm trying to space things out, so in about an hour, I'll eat the asparagus, boiled, with their recommended mix of yogurt (I got 0%fat greek) and dijon mustard.  Tonight more greens and vinagrette and some lean fish.

Day 2 might be harder....when I'm bored at work, I reach for snacks, so that'll be tough.  I'm not sure by the end of day 2 that I'll have the energy for the gym, so I might skip just so I don't pass out.  I'm glad I worked out this morning.

Anyway, I'll check in later and let you all know how its going.

The asparagus with the yogurt mustard sounds good! :)  Can't wait until you are done so you can tell us if it is worth it or not. Like ooodsie mentioned, it is not a lot of cals at all. But I suppose if you only do it 2 days it isn't hurting anything.

    Good luck tomorrow Cara!

Can you use agave nectar? Its a sweetner but I think its all natural Check it out.

Also check out martha stewart's website she had one that you could do on there and there were lots of recipes so that give you some ideas.

Thats crazy that is all the calories that you are allowed, I think you might pass out if you don't have more. Its just not even enough for what your body needs to run. I think there is a calculation out there that tells you exactly how low you can go without it being unsafe. I think you are only supposed to lose something like 2 pounds a week safely. One pound is equivalent to I think 3500 calories so if you include what you loss on a work out and what your decreasing from your daily allowed calories that might give you a number that is easier to do. Not sure but I would be worried that you might be so weak and pass out. I hope helps good luck.

I definitely wouldn't want to do this for more than 2 days, but 2 is doable.  You get good protein at lunch and dinner (its 4 oz, but really, an actual serving is only 5 oz).   I'm eating my asparagus now and and getting more protein with the greek yogurt.  I feel fine.

I'm officially finished, and going to bed.  I will report back with weight loss results tommorow.  We stuck to the outlined plan on day 1, but did add some nuts and skim cheese into the mix for extra protein since we played softball and were pretty weak.

Day 2 we modified more than Day 1 - adding more nuts, cheeses, veggies that weren't on the list and some additional fruits.  We did a 10 mile bike ride early in the day and needed the added boost afterwards.  We still kept it healthy and all natural/sugar free though, but did have some carbs in the form of gluten free pizza crust (still keeping things natural w/ the gluten free though).  I'll probably actually try to keep it going for a bit more, my normal healthy diet minus the processed foods/sugars for a few more days.
