Hair Trial and Bobbypin Woes

This is a question for anyone that had their hair up for their wedding - or has done their trial already.  I did my trial and LOVED my hair.  I want it all up because the wedding will be in July and I don't want to be sweating with it on my shoulders.  However, after a few hours of having it up, my head started killing me from the bobbypins.  I tried to losen it up a bit but it still didn't work.  The good thing is that when I finally took it down my hair was beautiful with curls - so if I have to take it out during the reception I know it will still look good.  But I know my hair and makeup will be done hours before the ceremony and I'm worried I'm going to have a headache before it even begins.  Any suggestions?

(I'm gonna try to post a pic of it - let's see if it works)

**Note: I plan to have two small flowers in the side of my hair instead of one large one**

I've had this problem before. Normally moving the bobby pins around helps, but if it won't I would suggest taking tylenol in the beginning of the day and continuing to take it in hopes of thrawting a headache before it begins.

    I hope this helps!

Are the bobby pins poking your scalp, or is the style too tight?  I assume they're poking your scalp.  Maybe you can tell the stylist about the issue and see if she can re-position them differently.  She may just have been putting them straight down to hold your hair, but could switch it up and put them parallel to your head, or some of the bobby pins were overlapping which sometimes moves them from their original position.

I'm not a hairstylist, so this is my best rec.

I have had this problem before when I was a BM. My head was throbbing by dinner and it really did ruin my night. I was so focused on the pain and I was constantly trying to wiggle the pins to make it more comfortable. As soon as we left and I was in the car I ripped it all out . My head was actually bleeding in one spot and I had a scab for the longest time.  I am planning on having my hair half up and hopefully avoiding this problem. Sorry,no suggestions, but I feel your pain.

Oh and to add, when I was at the salon, I told them the pins were hurting but they said that was the only way to keep my hair in place, so I stopped arguing. I should have been more insistant about it.

I haven't even started thinking about my hair but I was a ballet dancer growing up and into my early twenties...I know your pain.

Moving them around will help...I would ask my MOH or another BM to be my helper with this.  Have her make sure the tips are still on each bobbypin that she replaces..that's the only reason I could imagine scabbing like another post said.

See if they can use hairpins along with bobbypins.  Use the bobbypins for the parts that need to be held tight and then pin the rest up with hairpins, they're not as tight.  As long as they push the pins up and then down (they need to be weaved in to hold properly), they will hold just fine!

I would also let the stylist know.  I know someone else said hers couldn't do anything about it, but it's worth a shot...it's money to them, they should want to make you happy.

As a hairstylist , this sometimes happens. It seems your case is extreme though. The brand of pins they are using may be just to stiff and tight. See if you can pick up a box of Diane brand bobi pins (beauty depot or ebay), these seem to be the least painful but still tight enough. HTH!
