Misadventures in DIY

So I'm attempting to DIY a chalkboard menu for our reception to put in a huge frame I recently bought. Originally I planned on using chalkboard paint, but then I thought it might be worth finding an old one instead.  I called the ReUse Center and they had 4x8 ft chalkboards for 25 bucks. Score, I figured it was meant to be.  Knowing this would be too big for our car, the FI packed up a hack saw and some other tools to cut it down and headed to Maple Grove.

We arrived, found the perfect one, the FI borrowed some safety glasses, fashioned some earplugs out of paper towels, and started cutting.  Well it turns out there was metal in the chalkboard itself and sparks began to fly everywhere!  I tried to get him to stop, but he assured me it would be fine.  I still can't believe that a) my FI still has a face and b) we didn't burn the place down considering all of the wood scraps laying around.  P.S.  Wow, I love this man!
In the end despite being cut, it still didn't fit in our car, and it was raining really hard.  Long story short 3 hours later we are wet, cold, and finally home with that {insert expletive here} chalkboard!
Why did I think this was a good idea?  I'm filing this under "bridal insanity" for the time being...

Hope everyone else had a good weekend and more satisfying (and drier) DIY projects to show for it.
