FAKE CAKE ????

FAKE THE BAKE ?

I work for a event designer part time and the weddings we set up are over the top, 300-500 guests platinum weddings. Now their cakes are huge and I noticed are not real except for the top 3 tiers.
Is that CLASSY OR GHETTO ??? I mean these brides spend at least 5000 to 10000 on their dresses maybe even more is this something that everyone does ?

Should I consider something fake for show ?? I dont know how I feel about this because I would like to have something nice but not sure if its worth having a fake cake.

thoughts ??

Re: FAKE CAKE ????

  • my top tier of my cake has to be fake. because the cake topper my so wanted weighs almost 3 lbs. i don't see anything wrong with it for a cake to be structorally sound.
  • I really don't think it's a big deal or "ghetto". If having a giant cake (whether real or faux) really matters to the couple in the first place, then yay for them.

Kind of like spending $200 or $2000 on your wedding dress. No one is going to know but you unless you tell them.
  • I am probably in the minority but fake anything at a wedding bothers me - fake cake, fake flowers, etc.  I just feel like this is one occasion where everything should reflect authenticity and sincerity.

  • I don't see teh point in fake tiers unless structurally necessary.  The cost is in the decorating so it doesn't matter if the decorations are being put on cake or styrofoam.

  • Some brides want a huge cake with a gazillion tiers because they want that dramatic effect.  Of course, if they only need a cake to feed 150 people then they really only need two to three tiers of cake and instead of wasting food they opt for fake tiers to make up the rest.

Like GLB said, the cost is in the price of decorating so if you are having a fake cake or a real cake the prices really won't be that different.

  • We had a very modest 2 tier cake for "show" and it was fake.  It saved us over 300 dollars.  Yes, most of the cost of a cake comes from the decorating, but our bakery gives a huge discount on decorating a fake cake because it can be done well ahead of time without going stale.  It allows them to make it during their downtime.

No one would EVER have known that it was fake.   I didn't go with fake to be over the top, it was just a simple way to save money that absolutely no guests would notice.
  • Lots of people do false teirs because they want the look of a big cake but don't need that much or can't afford it. I've seen whole fake cakes where everyone was served sheet cake and that usually done because of cost.
