Boudoir photog contracts

Is it typical to include in the contract that the photos can't be used without your permission? I have been email some photographers and only one has said that is included in the contract and the others have said it is not. Thanks.

I think you should be able to include what you want in the contract. I didn't even have a contract with my photographer for boudoir but my photographer is good about asking what she can and can't use and I know people that didn't want her to use their photos and she hasn't. So I would go with a photographer willing to respect you in that aspect and will include it in their contract.

I used Callie V for mine.

I think generally this refers to publishing them in a magazine or posting on Facebook without giving your photographer credit.  It's a pretty standard clause - just check with your photographer to clarify.  My guess is you can use them for personal use all you want (photobook, prints), but if you're sharing them, you'd need the photographer's permission.

ETA: Just re-read, and yes it's standard that you would want to give your photographer the thumbs up (or down!) before they use a b-pic of yours somewhere.  I wouldn't worry about it - it's actually good if it's in the contract.

Wait, I think she is referring to having the photographer use your private photos for advertising and using on her blog, not the other way around, but I could be wrong.

Sorry if that was unclear- I was referring to what veijes said: If the contract usually limits the photographer to use of my pictures only upon my approval.

Thanks for your advice so far. Should I be concerned if the contract does not specificy or if the photographer says she would use my pictures on her website that is password protected?

You can always ask them to include it in the contract, if they aren't willing then I wouldn't use them.

When I had my b-pics done I just requested that only body parts, not my face, be shown, if she decided to use my pics.  I am a teacher, and the last thing I need is THAT going around the school.  Your photographer should be understanding of that.

The photog should be willing to modify the contract.  My guess is that they just use the same contract as for their regular services.

Just an update- the photog I wanted to use Teryn, will not include that in the contract... so I guess I have to find someone else!
