Sifting through all the Wedding Show stuff: DJs!

Hi Everyone,

I'm sure most of us who went to the wedding show had the same experience: lots of stuff! I have a hard time remembering who was who (except for cake, of course :). My first priority is looking for a DJ. I have looked at online reviews, and have tried to find old posts here, but that didn't work (got an error). So here is my short list from the show and reviews I've seen online. Has anyone used or seen any of these DJs at an event? I'd like reviews from those who have seen them in action:

Tony Schwartz
LeuJam
GenXPro
Viva Productions
CityDJ
DJRT

Adam's DJ Service
Bamboo Beats

**Just updated this. I got price quotes from many of these DJs and removed 2 that were too high for me (looking to spend under $1000 for 5-6 hours).

Thank you!!

Are you only interested in those DJs?  We used Bamboo Beats (they were at the show too) (FYI no, I wasn't there wandering around reliving my experience, my friend is getting married and I'm a BM :) anyway, there's a review in my bio and we loved him!

Oooh, Amanda, I'm glad you said that.  Isaac was one of the first people I talked to & I liked him a lot.  I knew a knottie used them, but I couldn't remember who (I thought it was Jenn at first).  I'm going to go read your review now!

Actually, I just updated my list. I narrowed 2 people out based on price, then remembered 2 more I wanted on the list including Bamboo Beats (they had a nice setup at the show!) Did you post a review of them somewhere? I'd love to see it if you did.

I'm definitely open to using others. Of course my main goal is to find someone affordable (under $1000 for 5-6 hours).

    Thanks :)

Piggybacking, but can I add one more: Seattle Parties? Their estimate was right at $1000 for unlimited coverage.

yeah, I have a review in my wedding bio (not sure if my reviews have been added to the seattle knottie website yet).  Unfortunately they aren't really a 'super good deal', but music was one of the top 3 things probably that we cared about so it was WELL worth it.  I really liked the husband-wife team and the reception flowed really well.  If anyone doesn't have a DOC (we didn't - a really good friend did everything up to the reception where the coordinator at the venue and the DJ took over), you could consider this a good alternative.

Just putting my opinion out there - we booked Bamboo Beats a while back and they've helped us out with other wedding related (but non-dj) stuff too!  Jojo has taken the time to help me with other wedding related things that have no concern to her.  I really have to say they are just a sweet, great couple and i'm so excited to have them  dj at my reception!

How did you get Seattle Parties for $1000? She said she was giving me a "great deal" at $1500 for a Sunday night! Also, she got my name wrong in the email, so that was another strike against her...

I'm piggybacking too.  I really need to get a DJ, but I can't believe how expensive they are.  We met w/ GenXPro and they seem great, but there prices went up in Jan (under $1000, but quite a bit more than they were last year...should've called earlier!)

What is a reasonable price for a DJ?

I completely agree!  they really are just a great couple and were the DJ we hoped to find and thought didn't exist (DH couldn't stand the old guys in tuxes at the wedding show lol).

PS jennyann - glad to help!

What I've seen for DJs, a good price is under $1k.  We booked Jeff Hill who's at $750 for unlimited hours.  I know when we looked at Sean Denard, he was at $900 for unlimited.  I believe Ipod DJing was about $600 for 6 hours or so when I looked last summer, but I basically nixed that because IMO, it wasn't worth saving $150 to stress about getting the playlist together, getting the equipment set up and making sure it was going to work okay, etc. when we could pay the little extra to have Jeff for as many hours as we wanted.  Can't say for others, but I know when I was looking it wasn't uncommon to find DJs around $1500.

Out of the ones you listed the only one I've seen is GenXPro. Jared is great and he knows what he's doing. They have done several things around Bainbridge Island and they did the grand opening of our venue last year. If I had been able to compare him with the one I used at the venue I would have gone with GenXPro over Entertainment NW.

Thanks for all the suggestions! And I totally forgot about the Seattle Knottie webpage, lots of great reviews there. I'm going to try and call Jeff Hill today since he comes so highly recommended. I filled out Sean's form on his website and he already responded saying he was booked on our night :P
