Rehearsal Dinner Questions

What is everyone doing for their Rehearsal Dinner? I have no ideas.

And now you're here, and everythings changing. Suddenly life means so much. I can't wait to wake up tomorrow and find out this promise is true. I will never have to go back to, the day before you." -Mathew West Wedding Countdown Ticker

Re: Rehearsal Dinner Questions

  • We are having ours at a restaurant down the road from the church.
Our rehearsal is at 630 and then 7:15 at the restaurant. It will be buffet style.

How many people are you having? I was thinking about just having the wedding party & officiant and then we grab dinner afterwards.

  • My FI's cousin owns a restaurant, so I think we are having it there.  We are inviting the wedding party and their spouses/dates, parents and the officiants to the rehearsal dinner.

We're having catered food brought to the church immediately following rehearsal. I'm thinking we'll have 40 to 50 people. WP and their dates and our parents and any other immediate family who comes to town the night before the wedding.

    About 31
    That includes:
    FI and I
our bridal party with significat others if applicable
Both sets of parents plus FI's dads girlfriend (although id rather she stay home)
    1 grandparent
the parents of our junior bridesmaids bc they are under 18

You dont have to invite everyone to the actual rehearsal, but can invite the rest to the dinner...
You also dont have to invite significant others...but im not sure of the etiquette on this one!
Most of our bridal party is family so its not a big deal and significant others are either in the BP or playing a part in the wedding (reading/singing/playing violin) so they are included.

You should also include any OOT guests that will be travelling from out of state (via plane or for more that a certain # of hours) This is why i said about 31 bc FI's uncle is coming in from FL and Im not sure about inviting him as he would have to come all the way from NJ to the rehearsal dinner where he is staying with family to drive back late at night to come back the next day for the wedding....doesnt make sense!
  • We are having about 20 including OOT guests. We choose a menu consisting of a few appetizers and they can select one of five entrees. It's at an Irish pub , but we are not doing open bar. We are offering soda and juice however.

  • We were going to have more of a Welcome Party instead of a rehersal dinner but I just found out that FI's family isn't flying in until late the night before the wedding and they want to stay at a hotel near the airport instead of driving the 30 minutes to where we will be.

  • With the WP, immediately family members, OOT relatives that will be staying at my Dad's, readers, DOC and WP dates we'll have approximately 39 people.

We're just doing a casual pizza, wings, potato wedes, beer, etc type dinner in the church common room right after the rehearsal. We didn't want anything super fancy and just wanted to be able to truly relax with our friends and family.

  • For Jewish ceremonies, the rehearsal typically falls immediately before the ceremony.  So we are having more of a "Welcome" dinner.  It is going to be at one of my families' favorite restaurants right on the beach.  We will invite all people who are involved in the ceremony in any way (plus significant others), all immediate family and all out of town guests (or people staying at the hotel).

  • We have around 40 people. It's going to be me, FI, both sets of parents, WP and their SO's/dates (including our siblings), his family that will be in from out of town, and a couple of out of town guests that are flying in.

We are having the rehearsal at my parent's house (where the wedding is) then we are going to Dave & Buster's for the dinner! We have 5 young children in the wedding (2 RB's and 3 FG's) so we thought it would be more fun for them and that we would really enjoy ourselves. It's a great way to get everyone relaxed right before the wedding. We're having a buffet, they have a projector and screen in the private rooms so we are going to do a picture/video slideshow, then we have bowling lanes reserved for 2 hours after dinner, and each guest is getting a $10 card to play the games in the Midway.

  • We're having our party and their guests and our immeidate families, plus grandparents. I have no idea what that total is, ha. FI and his folks have taken control of that. I have enough on my plate!

  • About 85 people in the private room of a restaurant near the hotels and ceremony/reception location.  I didn't exactly want it to be that big, but FMIL is paying and has a very large list (over 50 people) that she wants invited.  My maximum I'll be inviting is 32 or so...
  • We're having it in a private room at an semi-casual Italian restaurant. It's a compromise between my wish for pizza and beer with just the wedding party, immediate family, and a few key relatives, and my fiance's family's wish to have a nice sit-down dinner with most of their extended family (who are all traveling in from OOT). Should be around 40-45 people. Went there for dinner the other night, and decided it really is the perfect place!
  • We are just having something at our house.  Hopefully the weather will be nice and we can set up some tables outside.  I was just going to make some lasagna a couple of days before and then pop them in the oven when we get back from the rehearsal.  We'll get some salad, beer and wine and call it a day.

We were going to do a nicer rehearsal dinner at a restaurant originally, but it was going to be at least $1500 and we are paying for everything ourselves.  We figured we can add this to our day of wedding budget instead and get more bang for our buck.  Plus, everyone will just want to hang out and mingle so having it at our home will be easier and more comfortable for everyone.

  • I've counted 34 people. This is just WP, so's and parents/siblings of the children in the wedding except 2 of our ushers who are 17. I don't feel the need to invite their whole family since they are basically grown. Officiant and wife and our parents/grandparents. Also our dj and his wife because he is going to be at the rehearsal to practice for the ceremony. We'll be having a short dinner in the Church's reception hall immediately following the rehearsal prepared by me and my Mom. We're having Lasagna, Salad, rolls and some dessert.

  • We are having dinner at my parents' place.  All the WP and SO's, as well as all immediate family (which is still like 20 people all on its own...), and the photographers and priests - equals about 42.  Then after dinner and thank you's and such, we will ask the OOT guests (FAR too many to have for dinner too) come over for drinks and such :)

  • We are having in a private room at a restaurant near the venue. It will be about 30 people with the WP, their SOs, parents and grandparents. FMIL is hosting.

  • Our RD will take place in a local Italian restaurant near the venue/hotels. We reserved a private room, so we didn't have to worry about not all being together. FI's parents are hosting the dinner, so per their decision we'll be letting guests order straight off the menu instead of a prix fixe menu. About 20 or so people will be invited - both sets of our parents, FI's grandparents, our wedding party and their SOs.

  • We are having ours at once of our favorite restaurants, which serves Cajun food, but also has alot of other stuff to choose from.  Its going to be about 15-20 of us, which is our small wedding party and then some out of the state family that will be in town the day before.  We aren't having anything specific served, just going to let everyone choose their dinner choice from the menu.

  • Ours will be small.  15 people maybe and we will be going to a local pizza place.

  • We've got about 35 people on the list for ours right now. We're renting out the banquet room at the restaurant we went to on our second date, and right after we got engaged. It's a fairly casual restaurant/bar/arcade along the line of a Dave & Buster's, but still classy. Dinner will probably be buffet style.

  • We will have about 60 people and it wil be at a resturant that is nearby. We want them to have a good southern meal :)

  • Ours will end up being around 40: WP, WP SOs, family, readers, officiant

We're just getting pizza and beer at a local italian/pizza place. Nothing too exciting or fancy.
