I had a weird dream

Hey guys. I'm a reg but I'm not comfortable sharing this under my regular SN, but I'm hoping for some thoughts.
I had a weird dream last night and for some reason it's been bugging me all morning.  I had a dream that I was fooling around with a female friend I had in high school that I sorta keep in touch with now, but not very often.  In the dream I knew I was cheating on my fiance, but I kept on doing it anyway because it didn't seem like a big deal.  In the dream, I also realllly enjoyed myself.  When I woke up, I felt so crappy about it.  While awake, I would NEVER cheat on him.  But I can't shake the fact that I consciously cheated on him without a second thought.  Not to mention that it was with a girl and I've never been attracted to girls in my life.
I have strange dreams all the time but nothing this explicitly against what I would do in real life.  Does this mean I have some sort of subconscious desire to cheat on him? Or be with women? Am I over thinking this?  I think I am, but it's really bugging me.

Re: I had a weird dream

  • FI and I also had sex right before we went to bed last night, so I also wondered if it was just sex on the brain and my body was just still going a little?
    I don't know.
  • Um...

Dude, have you never had an inappropriate sex dream before?  I mean, I have sex dreams all the time.  Rarely is my H in them.  You're WAY overthinking this.  Seriously.

  • I agree with J. I have sex dreams with other people, including girls sometimes. I don't want to have sex with anyone other than my H and girls aren't my thing. Don't worry about it.

Obviously you're a closet lesbian who subconsciously hates your FI and wants to run off to a hippie commune where you can grow organic vegetables, stop shaving your legs, and paint all day.

    Or maybe you're overthinking it.

I have weird sex dreams about people of both sexes from my past. It's no big deal.

Edit: I find the fact that you felt the need to make an AE to discuss this stranger than the dream itself.

This, most the time it's not about anything. Sex dreams are usually NOT about sex.

  • It's a dream. You weren't consciously cheating on him. You were dreaming.

I have inappropriate dreams all the time, doesn't mean I would ever act on them.
  • Overthinking. This happens to me somewhat often.

    ...Maybe.
  • I agree OP, I wouldn't look too much into it.  You love your FI, and like you said.. you would never consciously cheat on him.  Try to just let it go.

I also think you're being too hard on yourself; it was just a dream.

If your main area of concern is that it was with a female and that you were ok with cheating, it could be because nowadays there's a culture of young males who pretty much encourage females to kiss their friends (think girl-on-girl porn influencing the male brain). ETA: when in reality, it could just be that you admire something about her as a person, such as her outgoing personality or her uncanny sense of style.

However, I don't think you have anything to worry about. If you choose to tell your FI, he might even see it as a turn-on.

OP, now that you know you are overthinking this and there are several people who do this, you can reveal yourself.

  • You think that's a wierd sex dream? Wait til you get pregnant!
  • I have inappropriate dreams like this.  Sometimes I feel really uncomfortable when I wake up.  Its even more awkward when its a person I know and I see them that day.

I also have dreams that I am smoking again and then wake up thinking that have to quit smoking....again.

But... its not a big deal, just let it go, like PPs said.

Dude, you were sleeping.  So no you did not consciously cheat on your fiance.

If you want to compare bizarre, fucked up dreams - I once had a dream that I was paying for my wedding with money I earned while hooking, and one of my clients was my BOSS.  Who I cannot stand and would truly hurl at the thought of sleeping with.  In my dream I was completely fine with the whole thing.

Dreams are just dreams.  They are weird and can sometimes freak you out and whatnot, but they don't mean anything.  Don't beat yourself up over it.

  • I get why you are weirded out, but honestly I wouldn't worry about it. Dreams are strange. I can't remember most of mine but I had some crazy dreams last night too. Sometimes I try to figure out my dreams but it's not worth it.
  • I've had some pretty messed up dreams and they are NOTHING I would ever do in my conscious awake state of mind. I used to watch a lot of the ID network and there are a lot of murder mystery type shows. Well I'd have dreams where I was the victim and the perpetrator. Did it freak me out? Yes, for about the first 3 minutes I was awake then I'd slowly forget the details.

I think you're overthinking it and reading way more into the dream.

OP - I wouldn't worry about this at all.  And I think Megh is on to something about telling your fiance about it.

All it means is you want to have it off with one of us. Just admit it.
  • It was a dream. get over it.
  • Things could be much worse. This reminded me- I had a friend in high school who I shared a bed with on a school trip, and I woke up in the middle of the night to her humping me in her sleep. OMG.
