Wedding Invitations & Paper

Return Address

My FI and I are sending out our Save the Dates next month - wooo! :) We have them designed and I am working on address labels. Curious though, how do I put the return address. We live together.

Should it be:

FI Last Name/My Last Name
Address
City, State, Zip

or

FI & My Name + Married last name
Address
City, State, Zip

or

just address to one of us?

Any input is appreciated!

Re: Return Address

  • We ordered a stamp that just has our first names + address, and we use it for everything now even though it's kind of fancy for bills...

You should not use his name until it's legally changed. So you can use just one of your names, Your Full Name + His Full name, but not just his last name for both of you.

Definitely don't do your married last name - it's not your name yet! We're making a stamp that says, "Maidenname & Lastname Wedding" with the address. The address isn't where we'll be living after the wedding, so it made sense to specify this was wedding mail.

  • Address only is fine.

Can you run the evelopes through your printer instead of using labels?  Labels are so tacky on social stationery.
  • Agree with the PP. We had a stamp made with just our first names & we now use it for everything. It's lots of fun! Super cheap on Etsy.

  • I love the idea of printing it directly on the envelopes - it does class it up a bit and make it feel less "business-like."Most envelopes can go through your basic printers after you adjust the page set up.

I am also a fan of putting the return address on the flap side of the envelope with even a simple added graphic from another aspect of the invitations - it's such a great touch!

There are great envelopes here (if you haven't already bought some): http://www.thepapermillstore.com/

If your invitations are slightly less formal, definitely go with both your first names - it makes the return address clean and seem more personal!

  • Sorry, vendors are not allowed to post here.
  • Thank you for all the feedback! I have decided to go with last name only (my future last name) & address.

In response to one of the above messages - we are having our addresses printed on the Save the Dates so no tackiness :)

    Thanks again!
  • I'd do

    Jane & John
    123 Main St
    Your Town, USA

(avoid last names.  STD are meant to be casual and keeping your first names only maintains that level of simplicity)
  • I know you are asking abou the STD, but...

If your parents' names will be on the top of your wedding invitation invitation like this:

    Mr. and Mrs. John Doe
request the honour of your presence...

then the invitation AND THE STD are coming from your parents, and it's THEIR address that is used on the envelopes.
