[QUOTE]Janet - what I meant is that if people are going to own guns, they should be determined to be mentally sound.  I guess I don't really know much about screenings or who should be doing it.  But you can't just give anyone a gun. Good points dmiller - but can't the argument be made that anyone who wants to harm or kill someone with a gun is probably mentally unstable?

I get that too, but the same statement could be made with leaving the words "with a gun" completely out of it.  I am in agreement that we need regulations both ways, but I also feel like guns get the blame for the actions of people.  I guess I think that a whole bunch of people struggle with both sides too.

  • True dmiller.  I agree with the statement that guns don't kill people, people kill people.

But then again, give a nutjob a gun, and they could use the gun to kill someone.

Gotta love the gun control topic, lol.

[QUOTE]There should be more limits to owning a gun. It's most likely you'll shoot one of your own family members on accident than an actual intruder. A few months ago here in California there was a little five year old boy who shot his two year old sister in the face. The gun was purchased legally. The father thought he hid it well in the closet and bought it to "protect his family". Which is understandable but wasn't worth it.

The 4 million gun owners that didn't accidentally shoot someone didn't fit in the news schedule.  Of course there are examples of tragic accidents, but to generalize that most or all gun owners are equally irresponsible is a little ridiculous.

I'm going to play devil's adovocate and say that all people who murder aren't mentally unstable. Say you walk in on your spouse with another person in bed. You fly off the handle and heat of the moment- spouse and other person are dead and you've got blood on your hands. You're usually just fine and even-tempered, but because you witnessed this horrific scene, you got mad. It's happened before.
Of course I don't think that's what you were getting at. I just wanted to be a smartass :) ::skips out of thread::
  • Obviously this is a hot button topic with me lol

[QUOTE]Exactly Missy. I sleep with a gun next to me on the nightstand. I have had it for 4 years. I haven't shot my H yet.

Now, if we did that, no telling what Max would do. He likes packing heat, you know. You've seen the evidence. Damn dog. I NEED to train him to wash the dishes or something - carry the laundry downstairs (not just my underwear).

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
